In loving memory of Andrew Cole who sadly passed away on 12th March 2024.
Curious, intelligent, immensely talented ,unconventional and master problem solver were all words that could be used to describe Andrew or Andy as known to his friends. Andy stood out in his apparent effortless ability to master anything he tried his hand at be it academically , eg the 1st class degree in psychology that he earned from Goldsmith College, or in Sport playing rugby for his school, John Fisher, his natural athletesism and speed made him stand out, or in picking up musical instruments which he seemed to master effortlessly.

He worked in a number of eclectic jobs from manual building work, helping a friend ( which of course he mastered easily) to programming for the NHS at Marsden but it was his christianity that dominated his choices and ultimately lead him to Ellel ministries and Pierrepoint where he lived and worked as facilities manager and became an integral part of the spiritual community.

Andy was born in 1968 as the third of 4 children growing up in Streatham and then Purley. He was brought up as Catholic , thanks to a polish catholic mother. He rejected catholism at an early age and was tempted by Buddhism after a trip t o China however he refound christianity. This became very important to him and would never shy away from a live,y discussion about his beliefs.
He will be remembered by all that knew him as a loyal and much admired friend and brother.

Andy- one of my closest friends- I could be real and talk with him about anything that was on my heart. He is a good listener, and kind, understanding, compassionate, giving counsel, comfort, good advice, or humour that made me laugh. He never judged, just accepted me for myself. We had fun times at NETS and Pierrepont. Once we visited Leeds Castle and he amazed me by getting to the center of the maze in incredible time. There he stood on top the center lookout stand- watching me going in circles in the maze. It was so funny. On the way out he told me a maze is always a continuous left turn on the way in and right turns on the way out. (Or did he say right on the way in and left on the way out? I may have forgotten...)
Andy- a good friend, loyal, kind, funny, helpful, fun to be with, and there for me in two dark times in my life. Andy, a gift from God. I am so grateful to God for Andy's friendship. Although I miss him and can hardly believe we can't chat anymore, yet I'm so happy that he is in heaven where he is perfectly happy and completely experiences God's perfect love without any hindrances. And to know that when I die I will again be able to talk with him, see his smile, give him a hug. What a sweet reunion to look forward to.

I'll never forget as teenagers, standing on the doorstep arguing with Andy for approximately 2 hours... the very important question ...'whether grey was a colour' ... this was one of multiple existential discussions over the decades ...later involving my kids as they were able ...he was like an uncle to them, with expert 'dinner nose' ...arriving with precisely unarranged timing as dinner landed on the table!!
He was an early adopter extraordinaire... introducing us to an 'ipod' and bitcoin ..
One of my sons summed him up as a 'Savant' ...though he was never afraid to muck in, helping with whatever was needed ... while never ceasing to talk about 'life the universe and everything' !!
I think we came up with some pretty brilliant answers...
It has been an absolute shock to learn of his sudden illness and death, but I rest assured that he will continue those discussions for eternity with an intellect closer to his own!!

I was deeply saddened to hear of Andy’s passing. I remember Andy as a dedicated and hugely talented member of the Application Development Team at The Royal Marsden Hospital for more than a decade. He made important contributions through the innovative systems he developed – some of which are still used - but also in the thought-provoking ways he inspired his teammates and managers.

Andy was an original thinker, who looked at problems and solutions from a different angle, which was invaluable to his work as a software developer. It was always interesting talking to Andy in and outside of work, and he was engaging and informed on almost any subject. I particularly recall lengthy Monday morning discussions over the weekend football results, with a natural focus for Andy on his team, Tottenham Hotspur.

We enjoyed many good nights-out with Andy; and while his time-keeping at work occasionally suffered (also reportedly due to the unreliability of his alarm clock or choice of vehicle); ultimately, Andy was always there when we needed him.

Andy had a kind heart, which shone through in his relationships at work. I will remember him fondly. I extend my personal condolences to Andy’s family and friends, and also on behalf of the team he worked with at The Royal Marsden.

Immeasurably saddened and shocked to hear of Andy’s passing. Fond memories of him turning up randomly on my doorstep at home and university with that broad grin on his face, or crashing at his parents’ place after the pub to watch Yellow Submarine for the nth time. Used to love his unconventional approach to life and he was so good at everything, absolutely everything, without even trying.
RIP my friend and thanks for the memories.

Andy was a great person to work with, technically knowledgeable, challenging and interesting to talk to. We had many discussions about cycling, bread making and building. He failed to get me to understand the stock market and bitcoin, though found other kindred spirits for that in the office along with motorbikes. Andy was generous too, even to the extent of helping me to install an oven.

It was a shame to lose contact with him when he left the Royal Marsden though, despite replacing the hospital system, some of his software is still in use.

I was saddened to hear of his illness and then so quickly his passing. Our condolences to all family and friends for a great loss.
