Dad was an avid football fan (Chelsea and Milwall), and enjoyed horse racing, snooker, and various other sports. He started out as an electrician on a building site, before becoming a paramedic. Dad was always a joker, playing pranks on people, but also, an incredibly talented man, who could do anything he put his mind to.

Dad served over 30 years with the London Ambulance Service, and during his time there, saved thousands of lives. He was a friend to everyone, a hero, a trainer, and the kindest, funniest person you could ever hope to meet. He helped anybody and everybody, and his passing has devastated all of us. Dad enjoyed traveling, and before he became ill, he was able to visit one of his favourite places in the USA one last time. Sadly shortly after, he was taken to Medway Hospital ICU, with pancreatitis, and complications that arose thereafter. He fought a hard battle for 13 weeks, but sadly, his body was no longer responding.

He will live on in our hearts and memories forever, and the world seems very much colder, and emptier, without him in it. We will miss him greatly.

I worked with John early on in my career and learnt a lot from him, mainly where to get the best breakfast and that it was ok to pop in to the bookies as long as you took your epaulettes off first! Sleep easy John, sending love to all of your family x

Sue, we were both so sorry to hear of Johns passing. It’s a reflection of the kind of man John was that having only met you both for one week in Cyprus many years ago that we always remained friends. We both still laugh and talk about the archery competitions, travelling up the mountains and the laughs we had over the sambucca!
Please accept our sincere condolences.
May Johns gentle soul Rest in Peace.
Love Aileen & Connor

John, a gentle giant, was our neighbour. He was a very genuine, amiable, loyal, reliable, compassionate, friendly, good-natured and unassuming man.

He’s generous with his time and it never ceased to amaze us how he remained unfazed by different challenges such as: fixing flat tyres, building an easel, jump-staring a car etc.

He left what he was doing on several occasions to accompany Joy to buy a washing machine for our family, even a white board for Joy’s tuition, manned the children’s BBQ at their graduation party and many more. He’s altogether a very good man as many could attest to in our neighbourhood.

He will be sorely missed but often talked about; and remembered for good.

May his gentle soul rest in peace, amen.

I remember my first day at Deptford as John introduced me to staff and took me round the station. He then introduced me to pie and mash in Peckham. A proper introduction to Deptford. He made me feel like part of the Deptford family. He was a very warm and compassionate man. John was always a friendly face around Deptford and is a sad loss to us all.
RIP John

Still, I feel that John is around and at any time we are going to make our next plan for when and where to have our ‘pie and mash’ or a drink in a pub or a walk.

We had the pleasure of meeting John and Su in July when we moved next door. In a heartbeat John was round helping and Su offering the boys tea and coffee and that was that we became friends as well as neighbours. John was amazing, helping with anything at the drop of a hat, whether it was fixing a fence, making Arri a toy or getting Rob drunk. In the short time we knew you John we saw what a wonderful, kind person you were. Thank you for the memories and I can speak for the whole family when I say it was an absolute honour to know you.
Sleep tight John x
