In loving memory of Andrew John Shirley, known by his friends as Andy.
Andy sadly passed away on Saturday 27th January 2024, aged 34 years.
He will be deeply missed by his loving wife Kelsey, Mum Mary, Dad Roy, family and many friends around the world.
Andy has had such an incredible impact on so many people throughout his life. In his 34 years Andy has lived with kindness, intent and deeply connected to those who crossed his path. It is impossible to sum up Andy's life in words, and what Andy's wife and family have felt comforted by is every message and memory from anyone who had the privilege of getting to know Andy.
Family flowers only have been requested. Instead of flowers, Andy's wife and family would be grateful if donations would go to any or a combination of the four causes they have chosen which they believe have been and would be important for Andy.
The four causes chosen are to symbolise parts of Andy's journey:
- Choose Love: Andy was constantly striving to know more about current affairs, to be educated in world issues, and had great compassion for people in less fortunate positions.
- Greyhound Rescue Wales: Andy had a beautiful connection to animals and this became even more evident when he became vegan a few years ago (and loved to talk about why).
- Switch the Play Foundation: Andy has always had a passion and an exceptional talent in a variety of sport. Anyone who got the privilege to watch Andy snowboard, play golf or wicket keep will know the pure connection he had to them.
- Bulgarian Dog Rescue: There isn't a JustGiving collection for this cause, as we'll be collecting cash donations on the day of Andy's celebration of life. Andy and Kelsey’s friends Lou and Sylw, who they met travelling and volunteering in South East Asia in 2013, are currently rescuing dogs from the street in Bulgaria.

We will always have the fondest memories of Andy, especially the great times we all spent skiing together over many years. When we joined you and Maggie & Rod with our three little ones - Andrew, Philippa and Alister. They would take off, in their fixed snow ploughs with happy little faces, following fearlessly after Rod. Joy to see. In latter times too, when they all became such proficient skiers, finding it a little bit harder to get up after
some apres-ski. Such good times to hold on to.
