Thanks Jean (& Cled) for putting together a nice and respectable service in Brian’s memory. Sorry I couldn’t be there in person, but I joined in spirit from Canada. I will always thank Brian for tempting me into a research programme on III-V compound semiconductors, which luckily turned out to be a vigorously emerging technology, from the early days of LEDs 50+ years ago, and now providing high power transistors for charging electric vehicles. Brian’s group contributed a lot of specialists to that hi-tech community. I always enjoyed it when we could get back together again and catch up on memories. Thank you Brian. All the best Jean. Paul.

We have very happy memories of the time spent with Brian and Jean during the launch of the Malaysia Campus in 2000 and 2001. We shared so much during that time - daily travel, regular meals, the occasional beer and the many joys and frustrations that accompanied our work. Brian offered wisdom, constructive challenge, advice, a great sense of humour and a regualr commentary on the Simpsons. Our deepest condolence to Jean and to family and close friends. Brian was a great academic colleague and a really good friend. He will be missed but will have a special place in our hearts.

I express my deepest condolences to Jean and her family. Professor Brain Tick has appointed me as an assistant professor at the University of Nottingham Malaysia in 2005. I had the pleasure of working with him briefly, during which time he greatly influenced me with his leadership role and vision for the Malaysia campus. He is a fantastic colleague who is down to earth and provided me with valuable feedback on teaching and exam paper settings. He is a wonderful role model, and my working experience with him is still fresh in my memory. It is difficult to find someone like him. May his soul rest in peace.
