I was so sad to hear of Alan’s passing. I had known Alan for many years as a neighbour in low Petergate. He was always there when I popped in for a chat. Always wanted to know what the latest story was on the street and loving a gossip about the comings and goings, of which there were lots. Even after I retired and left the street six years ago and stopped for a chat when in town, his first words were always, “So,
what do you know?” I obviously hadn’t seen him for a couple of years with him being ill but I am smiling as I am writing this and will continue to smile whenever I think of him. He was a lovely man. Love to the boys and their families.

Really sad to hear about the passing of Alan.

During my youth Alan would volunteer each week to drive Ed and a few other members of a particularly poor Sunday League Cherry Burton boys football team to Orchard Park to see us totally humiliated, again. So much so that when I last saw Alan a few years ago he still talked fondly about how terrible we were. He would happily take Ed and anyone else showing willing to a Tuesday evening fixture at Blundell Park to see a drab 0-1 defeat to the hands of Stockport. He was a generous and amusing man, and I was always chuffed when he accurately called me Jonny instead of 'Jimmy' [which was probably a sign of spending too much time in the land rover]. Thinking of you all at this difficult time. Jonny

Occasional encounters watching our sons play football for Cherry Burton B team. What an interesting man. I remember him; on one occasion, talking about his service in Vietnam with the Australian forces. One can only imagine how that may have affected him. Random encounters at a particular moment in time. Best wishes to all who have loved and lost
him. ( Guy’s Mother. )

I'm genuinely saddened by Alan's passing, he really was a lovely man from what little I spoke to him. I'm so sorry for you all. He certainly made an impact on people and I'd say a legend of Low Petergate.
