In loving memory of Michael James Linfield who sadly passed away on 30th September 2023.
Mike was a gentleman, and a lovely gentle man, he was patient, kind, loyal, deeply honest and clever, he had integrity and a calmness in all he did.
He had a very happy childhood in Slade Green, Kent. He made life-long friends at school, one of whom was our best man. Once he left sixth form he chose to go into highway civil engineering as his career, he was Indentured to the Greater London Council as it was then, where he qualified and went on to work for many other companies including Sevenoaks District Council as Principal Highways Engineer.
Mike was always a very technically adept man and very mechanically adept, in fact most of his childhood friends would say as a teenager he was mostly to be found with his head in the bonnet of his car, or someone else’s!
Mike is survived by his wife Kathryn, son Graham and daughter Karen.

Mike interviewed me for the role of a highway engineer at Sevenoaks District Council (SDC)and I ended up working for him for 16years. He was calm and collective in his approach in supporting his team. A manager that I have worked for longest in my career. He would share his passion of buses and the repairs that he carried out to them during weekends. He had vast knowledge of how things worked and would openly share, or even help. After SDC we joined KCC and then Mike retired from Local Government. I am still coming to terms of his sad loss.

I have fond memories of Mike from our time working at SDC (Sevenoaks District Council). He was a cheerful chappie and would always happily stop what he was doing for a “how’s it going” chat – something you needed a lot of in local government. He had a lovely disposition and was always good company. Fond memories too from our on-going lunch meets with other colleagues after we had left SDC. Bless you Mike.

Greenhouse Stirton & Co had the pleasure of knowing Mike through his lovely wife Kathy whom we have worked with for over 10 years. Although Mike did not work for the firm, He was our very own DYI/fixer upper man. There was nothing he could not fix. We will miss him dearly.

Mike and I worked together at Parsons Brinckerhoff (who were bought out by WSP), where he became my Line Manager at some point.
He had an extensive breadth of engineering knowledge and I learnt a great deal from him. We would go out for lunch at times with other colleagues and because of the kind and thoughtful person he was, we kept in touch after his retirement. My deepest condolences to the family.

Mike and I worked together at Bromley Council where Mike was responsible for the highways in the East of the Borough and I the West. So there was always a friendly rivalry of who had the best roads! Mike was not only a work colleague, but also a friend and we enjoyed a few lunches together after we had left the Council. My best wishes to Kathy and the family.
