He then pursued a business career in property development.
Nigel married Kay in March 1963 and had a long and happy marriage and had they just celebrated their Diamond Wedding Anniversary.
Nigel was a loving father to three daughters Sara, Louise and Charlotte. Louise suffered from MS for many years and sadly pre-deceased him in 2011. He had four grandchildren whom he doted upon and took pleasure in watching them grow and develop their careers.
Nigel was an active member of the community and gave unstintingly of his time. He was a supporter of the Conservative Party and became Chairman of Rushcliffe Conservative Association, was also Area Chairman and Area Treasurer.
He was secretary to the Lions Club ( Nottm ), Borough Cllr for Rushcliffe Borough Council and Chairman of Normanton on the Wolds PC.
He was Chairman of Headway brain injury association and attended the funeral of Diana Princess of Wales in that capacity. He helped found the West Bridgford Shopmobility Scheme, was a member of both the Nottingham Business Club and Probus Club. He was Chairman and a trustee of the Burnside Hall and continued in that role until his death.
His leisure pursuits were always centred upon his home and family. He also had a wide circle of friends, with whom he shared a keen interest in country sports. He was a keen supporter of Notts County Cricket Club and followed both Nottingham Forest and Notts County Football clubs.
