It is with great sadness that we announce the death of John Andrew Parkinson, 86, who passed away on Monday 20 March 2023.

A devoted husband to Angela, loving father to Tony, Julie and Peter, beloved grandfather to Chris, Lucy, Charles, Oliver, Alastair, Annabel, Rose and Bryony and Great grandfather to John and Ollie.

John was the youngest of 3 sons born to Jim and Effie Parkinson of Hessle in the East Riding of Yorkshire.

Educated at Beverley Grammar School and Hull University, after a period with both Proctor and Gamble and Mars John forged a highly successful career in the UK Petfood Industry.

Entrepreneur and businessman, John - with wife Angela - founded Town and Country Petfoods Limited in 1974 playing a major role in developing the then fledgling petfood own label market in the UK.

John and Angela retired at the turn of the millenium and enjoyed two decades of travel and family life with the addition of 8 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

Always a devoted family man John remained an inspiration, mentor and hero to his family and will be greatly missed.

Uncle Johnnie will always be remembered to me as the Great Uncle that took time to show interest in my life, to ask after me and share the most amazing advice. He could always make me laugh and shared the same unique humour as my Grandad, Jim Parkinson. I remember growing up knowing that Great Uncle Johnnie was a huge part of our family lives and I know he helped us as a family in many ways. He will be forever in my heart as a true gentleman that spread his kindness, compassion and integrity wherever he went. We were very sad to not be able to make the funeral, but have planted a tree in memory of our dear Great Uncle in our garden. Sending love to all the Parkinson’s and extended family. Chloe and Bertie xx

John was a kind and thoughtful man - a true gentleman. My late husband Bob Bras and I enjoyed John’s many visits over the years to our pet food company in Streetsville, Ontario, Canada, and to our home. John was a delight to work with - refreshing really. As well I will recall fondly our stay with John and his lovely wife Angie - the perfect hostess and host. I am saddened to hear of his passing, but am a better person for having known him. My condolences to his family. Fondly - Maggie Bras

Dear Uncle John was always present in my life throughout my childhood and into my life as an adult He always inspired me and often provided sage advice and thoughtful generosity. He was always truly interested to hear of our business stories and any future plans we had in mind. Georgina and I were fortunate enough to spend many sunny holidays with Uncke John and Aunty Angie in the hills of southern Spain. When our children Joshua and Mia arrived they too enjoyed his fun loving approach to most situations. They loved “Uncle Grandad” and they have always remembered our times together.
We will miss the perfect Uncle.
Love to Aunty Angie Tony Julie Peter and all the younger ones. We will be thinking of you all.
Jimi Georgina Joshua Mia XXXX
