In loving memory of Patrick Terence Michael Russell-Mott, known as ‘Terry’, who sadly passed away on 9th March 2023

Husband, Father and Grandad.

Terry was born in the area now know as Hammersmith and Fulham in London, living in Marlyebone for the first few years of his life. At a young age, he moved with his Mum and sister to Cornwall, spending much of his childhood and teenage years living in Truro, where he also attended the local grammar school after gaining a scholarship. His National Service in the RAF gave him a love of electronics having been trained to work on radio equipment. He continued this interest by building and repairing radios and TVs for his own interest. His other interests included motorbikes, playing the piano, ballroom dancing, and listening to music, with a particular love of classical, big band, jazz, and brass band music.

After finishing his National Service, his first job was with the Tax Office as a clerk. When he moved to Essex in the mid 1960s, he worked as a clerk in the Treasurers department in the local district council, Castle Point, dealing with rents and later mortgages, taking on more supervisory roles as time moved on until he took early retirement in the early 90s.

It was through ballroom dancing that he met Phyllis, eventually marrying at the age of 30. He continued to live in Truro for his early married life, with his first born, Michael, arriving in 1964. Having moved to Essex, Linda and Patrick arrived in 1968. He witnessed Patrick and Tina’s wedding and, although not able to attend, Michael and Nham’s wedding. His first and only grandchild, Anna was born in 2017, and although he only saw Anna face-to-face on a few occasions, a strong bond grew and he grew into his role of ‘Grandad’, enjoying her company.

Terry’s commitment and involvement with church and St George’s came more at a later stage. He very much enjoyed his roles within the church - sides-man and server, and supported others by giving many lifts to church enable them to attend. Even to the end, his faith was still an important part of his life.

After Phyllis’ passing last November, Terry’s wish was very much to be with her. After a period of illness, Terry now has his wish and is finally reunited with Phyllis, his wife and love for more than 63 years. Rest in peace.

Details of the service at St George’s and the Crematorium are on this webpage. All are very welcome to the Service at St George’s to remember Terry, with just family in attendance at the Crem. All are welcome to the wake afterwards, which will be afternoon tea in the church hall next door. For those not able to attend, both Services will be live-streamed as before. Please let us know if you need a link to this. There is no particular dress code. If people want to bring flowers that is fine. All donations collected are going to Havens Hopsices. If you wish to donate, you can do so by clicking on the gift aid section of this website, or by donating on the day. Thanks.

Uncle Terry was always a delight to be with and was a true gentleman. We shared our common interest in electronics and radio as he guided me in what was to become my career. I have so much to thank Uncle Terry for and both Jan and I will miss his wonderful company.
