Our heartfelt condolences go to Sandy, Sam, Chloe, Tristan, Elliot, Seb, Matt and all the family. We were shocked to hear of John's sudden demise especially having just received your happy Christmas letter, so it's hard to imagine how it has hit you all. Although we haven't seen you in years, reading through the tributes we recognise the thoroughly gentle, decent, modest, amiable man that we met in the Navy in the early seventies. He must have been a fantastic father-in-law, not to mention grandfather. Our thoughts are with you as go through the grieving process, but it is our belief that life extends beyond the physical so that he will always be with you.

Such sad news to hear. Even way out here in San Francisco he and Sandy were much loved and admired for their lovely quiet grace and style. Condolences to Sandy and all the family.

Ucle John and Aunty Sandy are my daddy's closest friends. Not only have they been good friends with daddy but they automatically became a part of our huge family. Uncle John always went abover and beyond with his love, care, and support. He is a great loss to all of us but left such a beautiful mark on the earth. He will forever remain in our hearts and memories. May he rest in peace.

Lots of love from
Askar Miah and family

Many happy years spent working with John at the ABA where he treated all with great dignity, patience, thoughtfulness, humour and diplomacy.
I'll never forget saving him hundreds of pounds after a chance conversation in the office lead him to find out he was still insuring all his belongings and white goods wherever he took them in the world, long after leaving the Navy!
He will be greatly missed. Much love to all the family.
