Dear Chris,
You welcomed me into your family with joy, fun and a little skepticism for this unfamiliar Italian girl. Between us a playful relationship was immediately established, full of banter and just a little sarcasm, between who was better, Italy or England. Over the years you have supported us with total generosity and sincere fatherly love and thanks to you and Pat I was lucky enough to find another family. I don't remember boring days with you, always things to do, places to go, weird and fun games, amazing Christmases and lots of quizzes. Your presence with the grandchildren was attentive and loving and the memory of you holding them when they were little and loving them with all your heart will remain imprinted in our minds. In your children there is your stubbornness and your dynamism, fairness and of course your passion for sport and travel. In your grandchildren we see your heart, your generosity in giving yourself, your intelligence and your tenacity. It won’t be easy not having you around but you have done an endless job for our family. We will miss you every day Chris but we know how lucky we have been to have had you as the head of the family for so many years. Thanks for everything. A kiss and a hug forever dear Chris. May God Bless you my dear Father in law. Barbara xxx

I feel very blessed that I had such a warm welcome into the Findlay family. The first time I met Chris was at the Findlay Christmas party at their house and I must admit I was very nervous, but that all went away quite quickly! We all had a lovely evening and then Iain said to me would you like a part in the play? I wasn’t aware at that time that Chris wrote and cast a play every year, either based on history or a classic book, so I was a bit shocked! I needn’t have worried though, this was the year of the famous ‘Nelson’ play, and if you know, you know!!. The Christmas party became a real tradition and we enjoyed them all!! One Christmas, Pat and Chris arrived at our house very early and proceeded to enter with a fully inflated rubber boat (full size), a safety lamp (maybe picked up from some roadworks), various coats, jumpers and a variety of hats, as props for the play! I’m not sure what the neighbours thought, but we had a wonderful time! Alex was very little at the time and was so excited about what was to happen. It was the highlight of Christmas for me. Whatever my wonderful Father in law did, he did well. He is irreplaceable, I feel blessed to have had him in my life and until we meet again I will miss him with all my heart. May he rest in peace, and the joyful memories comfort us all. X

My earliest memories of Chris are of him encouraging me to pass the ball to Edward more quickly (and more often) on Sunday mornings c.1982. It was a few more years before I began to realise that he might’ve been right. And he definitely was!

Thinking of Pat, Iain, Ed & all the family.
