In loving memory of John Mercer who sadly passed away on 18th February 2022

Thank you for coming to Dad's biography page, it means a lot to his family that so many people had only really lovely things to say about him. We are holding Dad's Funeral at St Michaels and All Angels, Verwood on Tuesday, 8 March at 12 noon and everyone who remembers Dad with a smile are welcome to attend. We will then have a gathering at Dad's house afterwards for anyone who would like to come back and raise a glass of something nice or a mug of something comforting in his honour.

Please know that Dad really enjoyed playing his badminton, short tennis and table tennis and made many friends along the way in doing so. Thank you for making him feel so welcome for all of you who knew him from there.

After Mum passed away, Dad started attending The Hub and again loved his circuit training and strengthening workouts run by Carly and Jon. Again, Dad made many friends there and thoroughly enjoyed his classes, looking forward to them each week.

Lastly, for everyone who kept in touch by phone or popped in to see Dad during the Covid pandemic, again, many thanks. Dad's world had shrunk somewhat and I think he became fed up of just seeing me every day so any distraction and a good natter with friends and/or family was always welcome to him.

As most or all of you that knew Dad will know, when we lost Mum, we managed to persuade Dad to rescue a dog and that's when Willoughby, a little, fairly elderly poodle came into Dad's life. They were both devoted to each other. Willoughby came from Waggy Tails and although Dad often gave money to various charities close to his heart, Waggy Tails, for him was the most special. By the way, if anyone is wondering what has happened to Willoughby, have no concerns, he has just been hand fed choice titbits and is now having a nice snooze in my living room. A doggy bag pack has just been ordered so that he can enjoy the smells and sounds of the countryside (unfortunately he is now blind) when I am out hiking but as and when he's tired, he'll be able to cadge a lift. Willoughby has made himself very much at home with me although I have to say, my cat has not been overly impressed! Having said that, she is just starting to grudgingly come around a little now!!

Donations in memory of John are for Waggy Tails Rescue and can be made using the link below:
