In loving memory of John William Piper who sadly passed away on 16th February 2022 after a short battle with prostate cancer. A much loved family man. A devoted husband and very proud of his children and grandchildren.
John was born in 1939 in Chatham, Kent. He was the son of Ron and Eileen Piper and had one sister, Sylvia born 1937. John married Nina Evans in 1961 and last year they celebrated 60 years of marriage-a diamond wedding anniversary with all of the family. They even received a special message from the Queen.
He had a long and varied career as a Chief Engineer in the Merchant Navy and many years working offshore in the Middle East.
He loved recalling his trip to Russia where he towed an oil rig into the heart of the country, meeting an old 7 foot Cossack who gave him such a strong bear hug, lifting him up and almost breaking his ribs.
His final posting was touring the canals of Scotland on a cruise ship. On retirement he took to growing fruit and veg on an allotment.
Please join us at the Cermony and Wake. Family flowers only. Donations to Prostate Cancer welcome. You can donate any amount on the JustGiving page.
Wake afterwards at Chatham Suburban Club, Wyles Road from 12.30pm

John was a dear friend and a true gentleman. My time living in UAE would not have been the same without him. We had lots of fun at the Lilley Club in Ajman where John taught me how to win at pool. I will miss him ❤️xxx

I worked on board the Lord Of Glens with John, and he was a friend and colleague to my Dad who was a Captain on the ship for a while. I am so sad to hear he is not with us anymore but I feel lucky to have met him.
