A kind soul is gone. Why now my Simon , as I affectionately called you? You and Chrissie were everything to me. I still remember the sacrifice you made by forgoing an appointment in order to help proofread and format my thesis on the day of submission. Your support, academically and emotionally, can't be forgotten. How about the invitations to your house for dinner and discussions regarding my career?
You inspired me to aim high. My Simon, you had such a big heart for many.
I remember your last words to me which were 'Roger don't forget to publish after securing an academic position'. My Simon, the impact you made in my life is immensely immeasurable. No amount of words can convey my appreciation to you and Chrissie. I was looking forward to meeting you one day to say 'thank you once again my Simon for everything you have done for me. God bless you' but that is impossible now. My Simon, I dedicate my appointment as a lecturer in the University of Cape Coast, Ghana to you.
You and Chrissie will forever be remembered in my success story.
Rest in perfect peace my Simon.

To Simon's life partner Chrissie and the whole family: please accept my sincere condolences. From the first moment I met Simon when we were both students in Canterbury, I knew he was a very special person - incredibly smart, driven, kind and fun. Our friendship is invaluable to me and I am grateful to have had the chance to know Simon. My family also got to meet and befriend Simon: we all love and miss him very much. May his path be peaceful and bright.

Simon, you will always be loved and missed! My son Svetlin, partner Ian and I were so lucky to spend time with you and Chrissie in the late autumn of 2021 in a moment of calm, happiness and hope. We'll remember you smiling, like in this photo.

  • Love the 'poseur' on the left of the picture - I need to put it alongside him in his Master's robes at graduation.
