In loving memory of Dennis Balmer who sadly passed away on 25th January 2022
Born in Burnley on 2nd August 1930 to Harold and Elizabeth Balmer, Dennis was the younger brother of Dorothy. Brought up on Hollins Farm, a dairy farm, Dennis never lost his love of all things dairy. Moving to Wheatley Lane with his parents, Dennis joined the RAF and whilst serving at West Kirkby, met his wife to be Norah. Married in 1951, Dennis left the RAF in 1956 to work for the electricity board in Burnley, settling with his family in Wheatley Lane. In 1970 Dennis and Norah moved to Burnley where they bought and ran Fernhill Hotel. They moved to Burnsall North Yorkshire in 1981, where they bought the greater portion of Hartlington Hall, once again offering overnight guest accommodation in an idyllic setting. They moved to Out Rawcliffe to follow a dream of a cottage restoration, whilst living onsite in a caravan. Finally moving to Somerset in 1998, Dennis continued to be a very productive and successful gardener, well respected for his knowledge and colourful flower displays. He is survived by his wife Norah and children Jeannette, Geoffrey and Gordon.

With loving memory of Dennis. A real gentleman and always a great pleasure to be with and talk to. Sorry to be unable to attend the funeral. Would have loved to have been there and shared in a celebration of his life in other circumstances.

From sneaking off to eat Grandad’s raspberries whilst playing badminton in the garden to watching all the evening game shows with Grandad and Nana, I will always lovingly cherish those many summers we were able to spend together.

When I was younger I loved to move and run around a lot. Other than my own father, you were the only adult who seemed to play with me that way, with energy and the enthusiasm I believe to have myself. No matter where I am or where you are grandad, I will never forget that; and the day you showed me double cream <3.

One of my fond memories getting grandad the opportunity to watch his team Burnley even thou we were in the opposition stand, and of course it was a win that made it even better 😊
