In loving memory of Michael (Mike) Stephen John Darvell who sadly passed away on 27th December 2021 following his battle with cancer.
Mike was born on the 1st of November 1950 to his parents Eileen and Malcolm Darvell in Taplow, Maidenhead.
Starting his education at Gig Mill Primary School, he was later awarded a scholarship to the prestigious King Edward Grammar School, Stourbridge, which his parents were immensely proud of. He later attended Wolverhampton Grammar Sixth Form.
Mike had a long and happy career in motor finance and risk assessment with Lombard North Central and later First National plc. Even after retiring in 2005 he enjoyed the friendships made with his past colleagues and looked forward to his days with them playing golf or spending a day at the races!
Work was also where he met his beloved wife Jane who he married in 1980. Later their children Katie and Simon were born in 1981 and 1986 respectively.
Anyone who knew Mike, even from as far back as school, knew about his true passion for sport whether it be rugby, football, golf or horse racing. There was always a sporting event in his calendar to watch. He enjoyed watching his grandson, Sonny, playing football on Sunday mornings and hearing about his granddaughter's dance and horse riding lessons.
He was a man determined to do things his way, and his priority was always taking care of his family. He is leaving behind his wife, Jane, brother, Stephen, his children, Katie and Simon, son-in-law, Matt, and grandchildren, Sonny and Matilda, who will miss his kindness and bad jokes very much.
The family request there are family flowers only, and donations made to their chosen charities.
Following Michael's Service at Waveney Crematorium there will be a time to get together, to raise a glass and share memories at The Poringland Oak, 44 The Street, NR14 7JT.
For family and friends afar and abroad, the service will be live-streamed and recorded, details to follow.

The last time I saw my father's cousin Michael, it was his daughter's wedding. My dad and I had traveled from the USA to attend and it was so nice to see and spend some time with our British family. We loved being with you all then and we're thinking of you now. We are so sorry for your loss of such a wonderful man. Hope to see you sometime soon.

Michael’s mum and my mum were cousins, and although our families didn’t get together very often as they lived In Wolverhampton and we lived in Maidenhead, whenever we did get together it was always great fun. Michael was 7 years older than me, and I can remember when I was about 8 or 9 wanting to look my very best when they came to visit, digging out my best frock for the special occasion! I don’t think the 15 year old Michael was impressed! I’m pleased we managed to spend some time on the phone last summer. Sending much love to all the family. Xx
