Poem
Close The Gate
For this one farmer the worries are over,
lie down and rest your head
Your time has been and struggles enough,
put the tractor in the shed.
Years were not easy, many downright hard,
but your faith in God transcended
Put away your tools and sleep in peace.
The fences have all been mended.
You raised a fine family, worked the land well and
always followed the Son
Hang up your shovel inside of the barn;
your work here on earth is done.
A faith few possess led your journey through life,
often a jagged and stony way
The sun is setting, the cattle are all bedded,
and here now is the end of your day.
Your love of God’s soil has passed on to your kin;
the stories flow like fine wine
Wash off your work boots in the puddle left by
blessed rain one final time.
You always believed that the good Lord would provide
and He always had somehow
Take off your gloves and put them down,
no more sweat and worry for you now.
Your labour is done, your home now is heaven;
no more must you wait
Your legacy lives on, your love of the land,
and we will close the gate.

Dads Eulogy
Son of Frank and Vera Glover Dad was born Michael James Glover 15th May, 1944, at 3, Railway Cottages, Bridgerule, he was the fourth youngest in the family, he had, Three older siblings John and Mary, Shirley and a baby brother Peter.
Dad was baptized in Bridgerule Church and went to school at Bridgerule SOMETIMES! Dad didn’t like school much, preferred being out on the land Farming, being with the animals, so much so he would leave Infant School to go to work up on Mackey and Jean Gardeners Farm, where he worked part time, for many years. He then went to work on a farm working for the Bluetts at Marhamchurch for a few years before he started full time at Thomas Oaks Coal Yard in Holsworthy Bagging coal, and then he returned to work for Mackey and Jean Gardener Part time, he would milk the cows at @Bridgerule and then walk to Holsworthy come Snow or Sunshine do a day bagging coal walk back to Mackey’s again to milk the cows before coming home for tea. Dad worked for Thomas Oaks for 30+ years, they changed companies Western Fuels took over until he retired at 60.
In 1970 my dad met my Mum Irene when my Mum was taking some food and drink to my Grandad at the Brickyard at Bridgerule. They fell in love, got married on the 12th June 1971 at Holsworthy Registry office. I was then born January 15th 1972 then 10 years later they had the wonderful surprise they longed for a baby Boy Robert 21st September 1981. Between them they have a son, Daughter and a Step – Daughter. 3x Grandchildren, 2 x step- Grandchildren, 2x Great Grandchildren, 6 x Step -Great Grandchildren
Though his eyesight was failing he knew the minute I walking in with a pasty each week, he would sniff it out and then start to hold his hand out for it,
Michael's Granddaughter Tasha bought him a singing/ swearing Parrot, he was thought this parrot was amazing was the best thing ever, he was so proud of this Parrot if anyone came to visit he would have to get the parrot to show them.

Dad was a keen gardener, doing vegetables in 3 different gardens, and flowers at the front of our house. Dad never really retired he was always busy doing something, he would go round to Neighbors houses to cut their grass, and put their dustbins out some morning 4am very often he would go to his very loyal friends Gerald and Margaret Parsons to do their Gardens, Many evening he spent with Gerald going to watch Snooker or listen to music
Up until Covid hit us in 2020, Dad was quite active, looking after his 2 aviaries full of budgies, Cockatiel’s, and Ducks, but after 2020 with the Lock down, dad became very lonely, and gave up on Life, he lost his eyesight completely, he had very little hearing left in his left ear. Unfortunately we noticed signs of Alzheimer’s in 2020 but Dad being the stubborn person we all knew Michael to be he wouldn’t see a Dr, but after a lot of persuasion we got a Dr in and in Sept 2021 we was told he also had Vascular Dementia. Dad had a stay in NDDH then on to Eastleigh Nursing Home where he passed away peacefully with Jean (Me) holding his hand and Nigel by his side. While dad was at NDDH and Eastleigh the Nurse’s and carer used to laugh at Dad, because, about the only words they could get out of him in both places was “ HOT CUP OF TEA PLEASE STRONG “ they told me even on his worst days he would make it known, when his tea was not up to quality…..
Please join with the Family Mourners to throw a tea bag in the grave to send Dad on his way with plenty of tea bags. This was Michael's Eulogy written by myself, read by the Rev Paul Fitzpatrick.
Dad was then laid to rest
when we were leaving we played The wurzels- Ive got a brand new combine Harvester

  • R.I.P Mike, remember many days of you on dad's farm helping out, go find Mike and both have a cup of tea together, remember dad like it with plenty of milk, and tend the gardens together.xx

Dad looked for his pasty with his HP brown Sauce every week, this was the last thing we could get him to eat, Pasty and his Strong cup of TEA.
