In loving memory of Eugene Anthony " Tony" Bertie who sadly passed away on 29th March 2021.
Beloved husband of Wendy, and dad of Darryl, Steven, Wayne, Andrew and Tina, and a grandfather of 8.
Tony served in the RAF alongside his brother Derek, after leaving India in 1961, and made many life long friends. He served in Aden from 1962 until 1964. In 1966 he returned to England, eventually going on to work for Mitsubishi Corporation, where he met Wendy, and the two families were joined when they were married in July 1981.
Tony loved a game of darts, or a round of snooker and played for teams on Canvey Island. In his retirement, Tony enjoyed carp fishing with Wendy, and they regularly fished in France. He was a long serving member of the Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes (The Buffs) and after retiring from Mitsubishi, he also served on the committee of the Canvey Island Conservative Club.
More often than not, every other Saturday, he would be found at Upton Park and more recently The London Stadium, enjoying a pre-match curry before watching the game with his sons and grandchildren.
Tony will be always fondly remembered as a kind, loving family man with a passion for sport and will be sadly missed by everyone.
We are asking for family flowers, but donations are welcome to the Heart Foundation and Southend Hospital Charities.
