Whether with family, friends or acquaintances, John engaged all with politeness, respect and warmth. He listened with genuine interest and responded with care and a quiet wisdom which often revealed his wide knowledge and sharp intellect. John's approach to others was rooted in duty - to the family for whom he felt a deep care and responsibility, to the organisations he served, to his church and to God.
