The funeral procession left Bridgeman Road, Teddington and travelled to Surbiton passing by many important places in John's life. Many of his friends lined the streets and the family want you to know that it was a great comfort to see you all there.

The family are so appreciative of all the kind messages received since he died.

Charities
If you would like to donate in John's memory, in lieu of flowers, we have chosen charities which John was involved with over many years. The Parish will put donations towards a new organ blower which needs to be replaced after 60 years service, 59 of which John served as a member of the choir. He was a Foundation Trustee (1988) and Director of the Landmark Arts Centre, most recently involved in the Save the Landmark fundraising campaign writing the AGM minutes only a few weeks ago. He was also still involved with Kingston Welcare as a committee member and Hon Legal Adviser for over 40 years having first become a committee member in 1978.

I was very sorry to hear the sad news about John. I just stumbled on this page, and I am years late, but wanted to add my memories of John. I knew him at Palmers when I was a trainee solicitor. He taught me all the tricks of the conveyancing trade, and regularly beat me at darts when we went for a drink after work. He was always fun to be with and a great personality. He will be missed...

To Rosemary, Lucy and Thomas - our most sincere condolences on the passing of John. I was so very sad to come across this post. With the South African postal service being practically non-existent I was looking to see if I could find an email address online and instead came across this thread. I hope that the long list of sincere and heartfelt messages of love and support are of some comfort to you all. You are all in our thoughts. Joanna (nee Hudson) and Derek Pettitt and family, Johannesburg.

A week after the funeral, I have only just heard the news of John's death, having been out of touch with the Bridgeman Singers for too long, not through any wish to remain away but only due to work, supporting elderly parents up north and other life changes.
I recall going on my first Bridgeman's weekend, must be around 20 years ago, and John and Rosemary both being so kind and welcoming, having that warmth and calm confidence that immediately puts you at ease. I will be forever grateful for those times, and all the interesting people I met as a result. My deepest sympathy to Rosemary and family.

The consistency of sentiment expressed in the long list of messages above is testimony to a remarkable person and I can only endorse them all, from my relatively tangential knowledge of John as a fellow CC21 tenor. He will be a great asset to the Celestial choral and spiritual realms whither he is undoubtedly bound.

John and Rosemary have been good friends of mine for so many years. There is a special place in my heart that John has always occupied as he has been there for me in so many different situations throughout my life. It is hard to imagine he is no longer sharing this world. Such a wonderful person in so many different ways. He will be sorely missed by so many and my thoughts and prayers are with Rosemary, Thomas and Lucy particularly today. With much love to you all. Claire

I saw (and heard) the streamed service, which was very moving. In particular, the Address was a masterful mix of sadness, humour and, for me, vast amounts of information. I “only” know John (and Rosemary, Lucy & Tom) via the Bridgeman Singers, and although this occurred over many happy years, I was unable to participate very recently, I do miss it.

Great photo by Michael Payne of the beers in Durham; I may have been present then, I can’t remember, but Durham is my home city so I always tried to participate in those visits.

However, what I learned today was the vast network of goodness John had built and maintained in so many areas of life, and how difficult/impossible that will be to replace. Thinking of all John’s family, colleagues and friends.

I knew John as part of our work over 7 years on the Law Society's Private Client Section membership group. I will miss his lovely hairy smile, his Uncle type hug, his humour and gentleness, his amusing ties, his calm insight, eating crisps and discussing family. Our meetings will feel colder with the loss of his warm personality, knowing someone special is missing.

I first met John Perry when I first arrived in Kingston to work for KREC in the late 1980s. I became a Governor at Kingston College and met John who was already a Governor there. I was later to join him as a Trustee of Kingston Welcare. John Perry thought me a lot of things and I got a lot of free legal advise from him. But what I remember most of all about our relationship was the "wicked" sense of humour that we both shared. We had great fun sharing our humour when others worried about how "risky" some of our conversations were. But that was John Perry! He was just a brilliant lovely person! I will miss him!! RIP!!!

I first had the privilege of meeting John as a member of Tallis Chamber Choir. He was a wise, kind and generous man with a quirky sense of humour and, above all, always wanted the very best for everyone he met. He will be greatly missed by many .
