Gaynor Dowsett donated in memory of Barry

When my dad died I was totally devastated my mum and myself wen't to Albins to arrange the Funeral Barry and he's family have been close friends for many years as we were also in the Undertaking business JE Birch many years ago. After my uncle jack retired from undertaking my dad used to help out when Barry needed him, pall bearing etc, and Barry in he's caring way thought it would be a nice gesture for me to walk along side him in front of the Hearse I also thought this was a lovely idea..... at the time ! Untill on the day, when I realised just how long Barry's legs where.... He has the longest stride in the World we'll to me any way only being 5ft and a fag paper. As we live n Brunel Road I thought oh it won't be to long we only live a little way from St Mary's Church... how wrong was I... Barry thought it would be nice to walk up to the roundabout at the tunnel past Jackie and the girls standing outside Albins and down Albion Street and stand for a few minuet's outside of the Newsagents that my mum, dad and mums twin brother had once owned. By the time we had got to the roundabout I felt like I'd just run a mini marathon I cant tell you how knacker'd I was, by the time we got to the shop I was fit to drop!! From there we got into the cars thankfully...! And drove to the church. We will never forget you Barry you was loved dearly by all of us especially mum Girly who was convinced you where her son from a previous life.
God bless you most caring Angel xxx

We have so many memories of Barry but our lasting memory will be of the 'splendid' funeral that Barry mentioned on his TV programme, that he would like in the future. Sadly, for his family, it came too soon, but his two sons Jon and Simon and Albin's gave Barry a funeral fit for a King. Barry, in our view was such a force for good in our Bermondsey/Rotherhithe community and further afield. He knew he was loved by the community and he reciprocated that love to us all, in his actions and good deeds. He was a genuine good, kind man and the love and respect that was shown to Barry on his funeral route in Bermondsey will remain in our memories forever. Our thoughts and prayers are with all the family. Rest in Peace Barry- God Bless- All our love- Suzan, Barry and Family xxx(Crawley)
