In loving memory of Malcolm ‘Malky/Calum’ Bain who sadly passed away peacefully on 09th September after a short illness.

Calum was one of four children born to Malcolm and Mary Bain, as the eldest and only son he was certainly the apple of his mother’s eye. Growing up in a house with three sisters wasn’t easy but Calum could certainly hold his own and the bond between the siblings remained strong throughout his life.

Following in his father’s footsteps Calum became a Steel fixer; a career he loved, despite the long hours in the cold Glasgow weather. He was well known on sites, made a lot of good friends and was much respected for his knowledge and experience. In fact Calum loved the work so much he retired and returned more times than could be mentioned.

When he wasn’t working on site or picking up another new book at the local library Calum was with his beloved wife Moira. The pair who were married in 1969 spent over 50 happy years living in the East end of Glasgow. Both Calum and Moira loved to travel and would jet off to sunnier climates as much as possible. In their later years the Greek islands was by far their favourite holiday spot and they became known to the locals, keeping in touch between trips and catching up whenever possible.

Calum grew up and remained a family man throughout his life; he loved nothing more than meeting up for a drink, or even better a curry, with his sisters, their partners and their children. In fact there was nothing more he loved than good food and a catch up; whether it be BBQ’s or Christmas dinner Calum was at his happiest in these social situations which is where his family will miss him most.

A joint funeral Mass will be held for Calum and his wife Moira on Wednesday 16th September at St Mary of the Assumption followed by a short service at Daldowie Crematorium.

Today is your birthday, normally we'd have a good wee blether on the phone. Now all is still. Memories come unbidden and at the most unusual moments and tears are never far away. Love you, God bless.

I was saddened to hear that Calum and Moira had passed away, a work colleague had called to say Calum had passed away but my wife and I never knew about Moira.
I had worked beside Calum (Malky) for several years on different jobs so have many happy memories of Calum, I had known him for over 40 year and he was a great man to know. Calum talked about his family in Holland and as I have in laws in Holland we had good stories to talk about. Calum and I had a good friendship and frequently had pint together, chatted on the phone and sent xmas cards, after I retired sadly we lost touch.
The photos that are on bring happy memories, especially the one of Calum, myself and Big Frank.
Calum and Moira will be sadly missed by friends and family and heartfelt sympathy goes out to all their families.

If I only had five minutes
The day you passed away
I'd have time to tell you that I love you
and what you mean to me .
I'd kiss your cheek and take your hand
And tell you that I'll miss you.
And even death can't break our band.

Oh Calum, After 51 years of marriage to Moira, two weeks separated your deaths.
How I wish I could have been there with you these last weeks.
Memories we have, but you're not here to share them.
Because of this Covid 19 travel ban I can't be there with our family to grieve our loss together. My heart hurts so.
Calum you are gone from this place but you'll be forever in our hearts.
Rest in peace Big Brother.
Cheerio, yer wee sister. XXX
