Whilst hunting for photographic evidence of one of the earliest Hallowe'en costumes I can recall (clue being in the title), I found these. One from a Christmas long ago, the other being one of the earliest snaps of John and Amy. Aims, I'm sorry you look like Nikki Sixx, but it was a Polaroid your dad found in a skip and fixed with "a wee bit of grey vinyl from work", hence it worked but made all those captured on film look like they'd just left the Super Bowl. I will find that hallowe'en pic... Xx

Memories of John Shaw.... where to start?

First memory of you is probably when you moved across the railway line to Moorhouse Avenue - we were introduced by my downstairs neighbour who used to live next to you in Langholm Street.
Then our school days at Victoria Drive Secondary, and getting to know you more through Tracey.
Your drawings of dragons (from the side, standing in clouds!)
Our shared musical/clothing tastes - loud guitars, long hair, biker jackets and cowboy boots.
Crazy nights in the Solid Rock/Otis/Rufus/Wypers/Bonds and other associated rock hostelries
Concerts - including the Metallica gig where a badly parked Mini mysteriously managed to be transported along Bath Street
Playing "Air Saxophone" (the only instrument I was ever proficient at) to Dave Lee Roth's Just a Gigolo/Ain't Got Nobody
Your enjoyment of running over parked cars, and you finding out the hard way that not all cars have a boot to land on when you're coming off the roof,
Your skills as a guitarist and song writer,
The pride in your eyes whenever you talked of Amy.

All these and more are firmly lodged in my mind and in my heart. But the best memory I have of you, is simply that you were my friend.

John - You were truly one of life's good guys, always bringing out the best in those around you and making the world a better place simply by being in it. It was an privilege to have known you and a genuine honour to have called you a friend.
Rest easy buddy,
Love, Craig

I will hold dear the memory of John, Amy, Cheryl, Graeme and me on holiday in Florida at Christmas 2009, driving down the I4 singing "RA ra ra ra ra" to Lady Gaga, Fun times.

John Shaw - such a lovely guy and a pleasure to have known.

I never knew you John but when Tracey talks about the things you did and the music you played, her eyes tell me she will miss you for the rest of her life. Bless you for all the hearts you touched xxx

The phrase "it's not the years in your life, but the life in your years" must have been written for you JohnShaw. The laughs we had will always be treasured. We wish we had seen more of you, but we know no matter how much time people spent in your company it would never be enough. You have always left us wanting more.

It was no surprise to me when John Shaw asked for my beautiful daughter Helens hand in marriage . They were just made for each other, they are both witty, clever, friendly, caring, hard working and passionate. They where always so optimistic and positive and Loved each other deeply in the tough times of John's treatment. I am sure many people will remember the good times we have spent with them both, at home and abroad, and of course having a beer or two! In our favourite pubs in town after watching our team Everton. Yes JS was a Blue, Helen of course influenced him but he embraced it all. And I know there are many friends on Merseyside who will remember JS with affection, respect and a smile. I think the Timber Tops Sisters would call him the "Most Sucked In" in all our lives. My deepest sympathy and Love goes out to Amy, Ishbel, Angus all his friends in Scotland and of course my Helen Lucy xx I am proud to call John Shaw my son in law, and will remember and think of him always .
