Nora Betsy Miller (14 May 1925 - 2 Aug 2020)

In loving memory of Nora Betsy Miller who sadly passed away on 2nd August 2020
Loving Wife to George and mother to Sandra, Joyce, Peter, Stephen & Robert. Grandmother, Great grandmother and Great Grate grandmother to family in Australia, Qatar, New Zealand and various places in the UK.

Mother enjoyed life to the full, In our child hood days the family would go cycling and youth hostelling together.
After we had left home, Mothers first passion then became her charity work and photography with dad.

In her earlier years at 15 mother with the help of others organised her first charity concert party and performed in the surrounding villages to Saxilby raising money for the red cross.

When Mother left school she did her part for the war effort working at the Avro aircraft factory helping to repair damaged aircraft and getting them ready for further use. When she again re-stated her charity work mother spent 10 years with the care of the elderly, then helped out with the WVS,
Mother actually learnt to drive at the age of 40 then went on to join social services doing meals on wheels. However after a hip operation mother then through herself into raising money for Mencap Lincoln and over the years raised in excess of £30,000 which helped to build the Mencap Centre in Tenticroft Street. After the closure of the Mencap centre, Mother then went on to raise money for the Long-Leys centre that became Busydays daycare located at Queens Park Community Hub Lincoln.
In later years Mother moved to Rooks Close Saxilby and said to me many times that this was the best move she ever made after loosing George, she met many new and close friends there, and fully enjoyed her time with them. On behalf of Mother thank you Rooks Close and Saxilby for helping to make mothers life a happy and enjoyable one.
Mother wrote a considerable amount about her life and as I have said before that charity work was her passion.

Even though she knew she was in her last few days, her thoughts were with the charity work she did and wrote .
"I wonder how Pat (Busy days) is getting on she needs all the help she can get with her group, its money again and I am useless at present" Then ask us not to forget them.

Well Mother on behalf of all your family and everyone you helped, you may not have been able to do much at the time of writing this, but you were never useless, You were the type of person that passionately and unselfishly gave your time and effort to achieve the goal's that you attained. We are all very proud of you and you will never be forgotten.

Thank you on behalf of all the people you have helped through your years of giving.
As a closure to this obituary I (Peter) will very much miss our trips out to the Lincolnshire Wolds that you loved so dearly and the trips to Sutton on Sea for fish and chips and a trips along the sea shore.

Sleep soundly Mother, as you go to meet Dad, Joyce and Stephen who were taken away from us far to early

Your Loving Family shall miss you dearly.

Mother asked for no cards or flowers, However, If after reading this short extract of mothers life you feel that you could make a donation to Busy Days Day Care, cheques can be made out to Busydays Day Care Queens Park Community Hub, South Park Lincoln. Nanna, so so many photo’s you took, you and grandad introduced me to Youth Hostelling, we had a ball, I was always allowed to have a can of meatballs for my tea, which I had to cook myself, learning life skills from an early age. When you and grandad took yourselves off to photograph all those churches, I went with you sometimes, to this this day I love going into a church and take any opportunity I can to go in one when I’m on holiday. Andy, Hannah and James have got used to me saying ‘hang on I want to go in this church’.
The modelling sessions we did when I was teenager were so much fun, I remember we were in Boultham Park and two policeman came past, well Nanna in your true style of wanting something done approached them wanting them to pose with me ‘being arrested’ such good fun.
When Hannah and James were born , I couldn’t afford a double buggy but it wasn’t a problem, you would come into town with me and we would have a child each. You would listen to Hannah and James telling their stories of what they did at school when you came for tea, along with the many many Christmas days we have had together. You are at peace and with grandad, love always Tracey, Andy, Hannah and James 💕💕 xx

It is with pride that I write this message .
Mother-in-Laws are often much maligned but I had one of the best. She could be frustrating , pushy , bossy and everything had to be done yesterday but she did everything with the best intentions.
She must have been extremely saddened when we took her grandchildren to Australia but there were no complaints. Together with dad they grabbed the opportunity to travel to places they could have only dreamed of.
She mastered modern technology , sort of and with a lot of help and kept in touch right to the end for which we will be forever grateful.
Mum , you were a superwoman ,one of a kind and an inspiration to us all . Your passing will leave a huge space in our lives which will never be filled and we will miss the love you gave so freely.
Sleep well mum , nanny and great nanny . You more than earned it.
Love forever from all in Australia. xxxxxxxxxxx
