Ian Ward (Passed away 3 Jun 2020)

Ian - what a gentleman! Thank you for welcoming me into the Ward family and sharing your amazing son with me.
Sundays will not be the same any more and I hope that wherever you are now they have bread and gravy!
We will all miss you loads. Rest in Peace.

Ian, There is so much I could write about this lovely man. I’ve known Ian for a few years. He was always so kind and caring and funny. Often speaking about the family he adored. Always asking after my pets and telling me stories of pets he had in previous years. We shared so much over the years and we spoke of absolutely anything and everything we had so many laughs along the way. I am going to miss Ian so much, he was certainly adored by many, especially myself. Rest in peace now Ian. All my love xxx

Ian was a knowledgeable and kindhearted proud family man. We remember with affection our invitations to join the Ward family for Sunday lunch in the Green Man when returning Robert to University.
We were were pleased to be able to reciprocate with two special days spent with Ian at Robert and Hannah's graduations. We sent home a tired but very proud Grandpa.

Ian has been a part of the Read family for years, a teacher to us all, a golf partner to my brother, a lively companion to my father and most of all a good friend to all of us. His dry wit, intelligence and open minded nature together with his kind and caring heart will live on in our memories. He was a very proud father and grandfather who loved his family dearly.
Taken too soon at a difficult time in this world, Ian, rest in peace.

Ian was the most brilliant Grandpa I could have wished for. I have wonderful memories of our childhood trips to Ipswich and later the meet ups every time we dropped Robert off at University. He was one of the most loving and caring people you could ever meet, and his kindness will never be forgotten. Sleep tight Grandpa x x

Ian was a very dear friend for many years and we had many good times together. We played many games of bridge together and recently Ian played with me and other friends at my home. We often had meals together especially at birthdays. He taught my three children and helped them greatly towards their future careers. I’m very sad to say goodbye to a close friend.

Our families have been intertwined for many,many years.We remember Ian's sharp wit,his very active mind and many,many wonderful meals we have shared together with Ian and his dear friend, my father, Charles Read.You will be sorely missed Ian.May you rest in peace.

Ian was a lovely man whose teasing and banter at the bridge table I enjoyed very much, as well as sharing our recollections of Ipswich School which he attended as a boy.

Having known Ian for many years, it is only in the last few years that I have spent time in his close company, helping him in various ways and growing a friendship. I’ve been privileged to have shared with him stories and tales of his life and of his family both near and far, past and present. I know how much family and friends meant to Ian and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

So many memories so where do I start? To a lovely man who did his best to teach me how to play the guitar and encouraged me to learn German (I failed at both - sorry Uncle!). And, thanks for entrusting me to be your caddy all those years ago and letting me hit the odd ball. Rest in Peace

My big brother, Ian, you were always thoughtful and caring. Your words were always kind. You made me feel good whenever you introduced me to your friends as your "young sister". Although we lived a long distance apart, we always felt close and used to check the weather forecasts to see what it was like where the other one lived. I will miss our weekly phone calls so much. You loved your family and we share wonderful memories of our family reunions. We will all miss you.

Dear Uncle Ian, such happy memories of a kind, funny and clever man who had so much love for all his family, he will be very much missed. Rest In Peace.

David and I will miss Ian and his funny quips at the bridge table. We have only known Ian for a few years, but grew to love playing against him and his bridge partner Sue, at Debenham Bridge Club, especially learning from him as he gave friendly and often very amusing advice to Sue across the table. We also enjoyed some excellent barbeques with Ian who generously gave his support to the club by providing sausages and burgers for us all to enjoy. Rest in peace Ian. You will be fondly remembered and missed by us all.

Dear Grandad you are my best friend and I love you so much. Thank you for all the lovely times we had together. I miss you so much. I think about you all the time and wish I could come and see you, so we could sing your favourite songs together and have our Fish and Chips. I am so lucky you are my grandad because you are the best. Love you forever,

Many thanks for teaching me bridge 20 years ago. Many thanks, also, for always helping me with my crosswords. However, my greatest thanks are for your friendship. I’ll miss you so much. Say hello to Billy Wright !

I have such happy memories of playing Bridge with Ian. He was my partner for four years and during that time he taught me so much and I shall always be grateful to him for enhancing my enjoyment of the game.
He was a born teacher and was patient and encouraging, although was not averse to constructive criticism which I much appreciated.
Other players were always pleased to come to our table as he was in the habit of cracking jokes and reciting anecdotes of his youth in his beloved village of Debenham where he was born.
I shall miss him very much as we became great friends..

I met Ian through golf, although no one ever called him Ian, we all knew him as Uncle and thats exactly how he was, everyones Uncle. He taught me how to speak German, how to play the guitar, how to drive, how to play bridge, bits about golf but most of all he showed me how to be a good person. I have some wonderful memories of Ian, I can clearly remember times he laughed so hard he couldn't breathe, the times he was lost for words at the injustice of things and support he would show anyone who needed a shoulder (me most of the time). Blimey, the time he stood up and made a toast at Skegness GC, heck that was embarrassing!

He used to say 'road black, grass verge green' during my driving lessons and his many sayings involved a mild curse so can't be repeated here! One of them began with "may a thousand and four...' for anyone who might remember that...!

He loved his golf, loved the Golf Club and loved the people within it. A dear man, one of the good guys and maybe the most popular person i've ever met. He will be sorely missed.

So saddened to hear of the passing of Mr Ward. I have fond memories of him at Combs Middle School in the early 1980’s. He was a well respected teacher of mathematics but my main memories of him, are of him teaching us swimming in the school pool. Lovely man whom wanted the very best for his students. Rest in peace Mr Ward.

To Grandad. I have so many memories of You throughout my life that will never be forgotten. You was a true gentleman and will be missed greatly. I love you Grandad xx always in my heart xx Jamie xx
