In loving memory of Elizabeth Mary Cramp who sadly passed away on 31st May at Calderdale Royal Hospital, Halifax.
Born in Lancaster, Mary grew up with her three older brothers, Bob, Joe and Leo Alston. Her fondest childhood memories were of long summer holidays at Wrea Green near Lytham where they stayed with relatives. Mary met Bob, her future husband, when he was stationed in Lancaster during the war and they were married at Lancaster Cathedral in 1948. During over fifty years of married life, Mary enjoyed looking after her mother, the late Pauline Alston, and her three children, the late Philip, Pauline and Sylvia. Mary knew so many people in Lancaster from school and working at Lansil and Storeys, in addition to her own family and always found people to talk to during her shopping trips.
Mary moved to Huddersfield in 2012 to live with her daughter. Mary will be remembered for enjoying many mugs of tea, shopping and making jokes with her three grandchildren, Jessica, Callum and Lucy.
To enable everyone to share in celebrating Mary’s life, due to limited attendance at the funeral service, we are asking people to enjoy a large mug of tea and a cake at 11.00am on Tuesday June 16th and remember enjoyable moments from her life. Mary particularly loved vanilla slices and egg custards or a toasted teacake!

My friendship with Mary is relatively recent and has consisted mainly of meals out, along with Sylvia. They were enjoyable occasions, and being of a similar age Mary and I were able to exchange a few of our memories of times long gone. I shall definitely miss those outings and I know I will be reminded of them from time to time. And I send my condolences to every member of Mary's family.

Dear Mary was my mum Betty Platt’s much loved cousin ... as close friends in Lancaster Betty was immensely fond of Cousin Mary and we grew up with her as Aunty Mary . I can hear the two of them chatting now ... always a quick sparky banter ... always a keen wit ...who’d get the jokey comment in first .. in later years long supportive phone calls ... Mary would manage to brighten my mum on harder years and always raised a smile in her.
My image of Mary will always be of a well groomed lady .. smarter than smart .. warm and kind...a twinkle in her eye ... always youthful.
I am so terribly sorry not to have visited in the last couple of years ... and very sad to hear of her death ...but it was lovely to see her so happy living in Huddersfield with Sylvia when I saw her on her sprightly 90th year ... a lovely memory .
There’s a good team waiting for her wherever that may be .. I can already hear those cousins laughing and catching up x

xxx much love to Pauline and Sylvia and the extended family x Mary was a very well loved lady who’s style and youthfulness was an inspiration x much love Susan Platt

Mary's photo brings back so many memories of happy family life in Lancaster: Betty and Dad loading the family into the car for a trip over to Torisholme Road for some festive Auntie Mary hospitality surrounded by the family, with great aunt Pauline keeping an ever watchful eye in the background. Such a sweet lady and looking great in the photo. I will be raising a cup and cake and remembering happy times. Peace and rest
Mark

Such a lovely, funny and refined lady. I really enjoyed our daily chats and putting the world to rights. I know she enjoyed our virtual walks together in the countryside, she commented that she felt she was on them herself. Such a privilege to have known Mary will miss the banter. Be at peace
