In loving memory of the Queen of our family - Delia McGovern - our wonderful Mum who sadly passed away 5th May 2020, aged 96 years.

Mum was sadly predeceased by our lovely Sister, Angela, last year. Tragically Sean, her only Son, died unexpectedly on 6th May 2020, one day after Mum's passing.

Mum was born in 1923 in Cloonlara, Co. Mayo, the youngest of 9 children. She often reminisced warmly about her childhood in Mayo and would tell us many stories of her escapades and school life.

In 1945 Mum came to England, following in the footsteps of her Sisters, Kitty and Mary, and her Brothers, Martin and Michael. After meeting our Dad, John McGovern, they married and lived in north London.

Mum and Dad went on to have 5 children, Maureen, Sean, Christine, Angela and Collette. In 1964 the family moved to a new home in Stockwell where Mum continued to live after Dad passed away in 1994. Mum was a doting Nan to Natalie, Laurie, Rebecca, Justine, Brogan, and Tamara. Mum also became a Granny to Raphael and recently to baby Phoenix. She was very close to and proud of her family.

Mum was a practical, strong, hardworking and house-proud Irish woman. She was an animal lover and enjoyed the company of her family and was a great support to her children and grandchildren. Mum was open-minded and always loved the craic, especially with her grandchildren. Mum’s Catholic faith was important to her and she served in her parish church for many years. She had a close network of friends over the years and loved family get-togethers and meals out, and holidays home and abroad.

Rest in peace Mum, now reunited with Dad, Angela, Sean and all your friends and family who have gone before. We are so lucky and thankful you had such a long and full life with us and we will cherish the memories forever. You will always be the Queen of our family.

Our family would love you to write a message or post a photo on the funeral guide page to be compiled into a special memorial book for Delia.

Donations gratefully received in loving memory of Delia for St John's Community Development Project. Delia regularly attended the social club at St John's for bingo and enjoyed outings, meals out and holidays with the senior citizens' group over many years. To make a donation please click here

My grandparents lived next door to Delia and John since I was a baby. As a toddler I often used to invite myself in and ask Delia to make me some soup for lunch, it was home from home. What an amazing lady you were and you will be sadly missed by all that had the pleasure of knowing you. God bless and rest in peace x x x

Precious memories of Aunt Delia. Sadly she was the last remaining Auntie of mine. I fondly remember the McGovern family annual visit to Cloonlara in the sixties and early seventies to visit Aunt Delia’s mother, siblings and extended family in the Swinford area. She was such a jovial big hearted , fun loving lady. We will always cherish our visit for her ninety birthday. I would like to send our condolences to her whole family. May she Rest In Peace.
