In loving memory of John Combes who passed away peacefully in his sleep on 2nd May 2020. A lifelong local resident John was devoted to his family: his wife Jackie who pre-deceased him in 2013, son Chris, daughter Sue, grandsons Jack and Adam and great-grandson Harry.
John spent his entire career working for Nottingham City Council, starting out in 1964 as a Trainee Accountant and retiring as Director of Finance. John also tutored at Clarendon college, helping many colleagues through their Association of Accounting Technicians qualifications in the late 70s and 80s. Retiring in 2003 John spent his retirement pursuing various interests and passions; as well as being an avid Nottingham Forest fan, he loved spending time cultivating his established garden, researching his family history, collecting porcelain, sampling single malt whiskies and holidaying abroad with Jackie and the wider family. Also during his retirement he discovered the musical Les Miserables and became a huge fan, seeing the show live several times and often bursting into impromptu song! More recently he took up running at the age of 70, completing 115 Parkruns and taking part in a number of 10k races.
John will be missed by all who knew him and the family would love the help of friends, family and former colleagues in keeping his memory alive by sharing any memories, photographs and funny stories on our dedicated rememberence page here https://johncombes.muchloved.com/

It's been exactly 2 months since you left us and we are starting to heal but your legacy lives on. I was gazing at the rain on my garden yesterday thinking I only have my lovely house because of your help and we will make sure you continue to help the next generation as you had already started to do. Donations in your memory are closing today and the two charities will share £1,000. I know you'd have been absolutely delighted and surprised by this! xxx

John was a good colleague and friend who was one of the most genuine people I have worked with. I still remember our talks on football every Monday morning.

John (Grandad to us all), we weren't ready to lose you, there was still so much for you to see and enjoy, with many trips and holidays planned that you were an important part of, you absence at the dinner table fills us with sadness.
You gave so much of your time to help others, looking after so many in your own way, we're missing you so much.

I hadn't known John for very long, we both lost our partners at the same time and through john Eastwood we became firm friend's. I shall miss his humour and company at our regular lunches, Rest in peace my friend, love Angela xx
