Julian Houldey (20 Apr 1940 - 14 Apr 2020)

I worked with Julian and other teachers to provide QES students with "Adventure weekends" in the 1970's and 80's, based at California Farm near Swanage. Activities included rock climbing, canoeing and hiking.
Julian and I, together with teaching friends, would meet on Friday evenings, mainly at the Cross Keys, for a beer or two.
When their children were younger I took some photographs of them for Julian and Jane, something that Jane reminded us about when we visitied more recently, when she showed us the photograph album that she had made.
In more recent years, Mike and I occasionally had coffee mornings with Julian at garden centres and Highcliffe Castle, to put the world to rights!
Sometimes Ro and I would go out walking along the cliff paths with Julian and Jane, and I remember having one of the famous fish and chip lunches at the cafe on the cliffs! Such happy times.
We will miss Julian.

In memory of my dear brother Julian Houldey

Our best memories of Grampy are him getting up and becoming our 4th member of our Mumma Mia Tribute dance. That to being that extra star fielder in our quick cricket matches and when Father Christmas couldn’t understand where Freddie was, when handing out the presents to us all. Grampy was honestly none other than a crowd pleaser, sportsman and a witty, funny man.

You will never be forgotten, only forever missed, and we loved every second of the time we spent with you.

Julian, the best father in-law you could ever wish for. Always with a smile. Very quick witted, even had a joke on you when I came to ask for your daughters hand in marriage. Thank you for letting me be a part of your family. You'll be sadly missed but got some great memories. X

Dad, you were a very special man who touched the hearts of so many. You had a wicked sense of humour that would catch us unawares, the widest smile and the biggest heart for all to see.
You loved your sport, to play, to coach and to watch. You inspired me, my children and so many others to do the same and follow their dreams.
I am so proud to have called you my dad and my children are so blessed to have spent so much time with their ‘Grampy’. You will live in all of hearts for ever, all my love Dand x

Such a sad moment; but hopefully made a little easier by all of the happy memories.
A true gentleman who always made every younger colleague feel welcome as they joined the PE Department at QE.
An incredibly proud father who positively glowed when Becky, Dandy and Jim were enjoying their well deserved successes.

Julian Houldey knew I hated PE and allowed me to go cycling instead, almost unheard of at the time. He was also a member of the management committee of The Planet youth centre and a great supporter of Wimborne's youth. He had a lovely gentle sense of humour and was very much admired.

Dad,
It would be impossible to put into words here what you mean to me. In fact even the greatest of all wordsmiths would not manage. That, or I could sit writing endlessly about every moment that you have supported me, nurtured me, taught me, cared for me, carried me, entertained me, and enabled me to become who I am. I take comfort in knowing that over the past months, and indeed through my lifetime, I have been able to express to you in person, what cannot be conveyed here on paper.
I have heard it said that companionship can be measured in the amount of time you can be content to just be with another, without feeling compelled to break silence or be doing anything in particular. The number of hours I have spent in absolute contentment while at your side seem almost infinite, and they have been the happiest times that anyone could ever wish for.
Time with you has been the greatest gift you could have given me, and in those terms, I am as rich as I can be.
My hero, my moral compass, my guide,my teacher, my coach, my inspiration. My Father.
Your legacy endures through us and our children, and indeed in every one of the multitude of young people that have benefited from your investment in them

I would just like to say that he was a fun loving brother-in-law and I will really miss him especially answering the phone. Jane my thoughts are with you and the family it is a sad day

I would just like to say that as a brother-in-law he was good fun to be around with a great sense of humour.
I didn't see as much of him in later life as I would have like but I shall miss his witty banter when he used to answer the phone (when he had his hearing aid in).

I feel very fortunate to have worked with him as my immediate boss for 10 years at Queen Elizabeth's School . I will never forget the warm welcome he and Jane gave to me when I first arrived in Dorset. With fond memories of Julian.

Hey Jim, Dandy, Becky and family. So sorry for your loss, your Dad was a great support to my Dad with the mini rugby back in the day and was always good fun which is how I will always remember him. Love and hugs to you all. Try and remember the good times x

A great cause in memory of a lovely man

Lots of memories of our early days, being at your wedding and very impressed with your new house at Pickwick. Kay thought we'd never be able to afford such a grand home! Jane and family, we are thinking of you, with love from John and Kay .

Dad, I will remember your smile forever. You had a sense of humour that would make us laugh uncontrollably at the most inopportune moments and I have too many fond memories to mention. I miss you terribly. You are forever in my thoughts. You make me proud to say you were my Dad. Love you forever.
