Jim Murphy, the third of four children and only son of Patrick and Lily Murphy, nee Walsh, sadly passed away on 15th February 2020 at the age of 70. Jim lived all of his life in South London and went to school in Tulse Hill. He started his working life assembling sound equipment for rock and pop events and other performers in the 1960’s; he worked alongside many famous artists of the time. Later he worked as an archivist and document controller in the engineering industry and remained there until his retirement just a few years ago. Jim enjoyed gatherings and holidays with his family. For many years he played tennis regularly with friends he had known since his schooldays. During his final year he endured many challenges with his health including life changing surgery.
He will be sadly missed by his three sisters, five nephews, one niece, five great nieces and eight great nephews.

Heather and Paul McCarthy donated £100 in memory of James

Dear Theresa, Kitty and Christine,
I am so sorry to hear of dear Jimmy’s passing. May his journey be swift and joyous.
I remember his gentle heart and his kindness- bringing me milky tea in the morning before I woke up
(I stayed with your mum when I had a layover), letting me bum a cigarette as we walked down the street by his and your mom’s house, laughing at the plaque on the brick wall outside the church hall that said “English Martyr’s Social Club”. I must find that picture. I liked Jimmy very much and am very sad that he has left us.
May your families be at peace in your loss, knowing he is in a good space. I will be with you in spirit on the 17th.
My love to you all
-Peggy
