Barry Noon was born on 27 March 1946, the younger son of John and Joan (née Ellis) Noon.

Barry was a wonderful man with a dazzling zest for life that shone more brightly due to his own experience of kidney failure, diagnosed in 1969 during his architectural training. Barry was subsequently treated with home dialysis before receiving a successful transplant in 1984. After overcoming many health problems, Barry died suddenly on 23 March 2015 of acute pancreatitis.

Barry was loving, kind, funny, creative and a true friend. He will be terribly missed by his wife Sue, his son James, his ex-wife Paula, his wider family and all of his many friends.

I did not know Barry very well: I met him and his wife, Sue, at GSTTKPA AGMs and at the NKF annual conferences. Barry was a founding member of the GSTTKPA and leaves a legacy of charitable endeavour for and behalf of kidney patients.

My enduring memory of Barry was in 2011 when he robustly challenged the GSTTKPA. At the time, I was just an interested patient but his conviction made a significant impression on me and has reinforced a patient-centred approach within the GSTTKPA charity.

Thank you, Barry.

I have met very few people in life with such an enthusiasm and love of life. A lesson to all of us on many levels.
A true inspiration to those with health challenges, a man who dealt with them all with amazing bravery. Much missed.
