In loving memory of Terry Marston who sadly passed away on Friday 27th September 2019 aged 78 years.

Terry was born on 22 August 1941 to Ethel and Vernon. He attended Keighley Boy’s Grammar School and as a teenager he played the drums in ‘The Hillsiders Dance Band’.

Terry went on to Borough Road College where he studied History, French and English and also trained to become a secondary school teacher.

Terry started his teaching career in York, and then took the position of Head of History at William Robertson School in Welbourn, Lincoln.

Terry married his childhood sweetheart, Margaret Nunweek on 11 August 1964, they had a long and happy marriage until she sadly passed away on 9 November 2001.

Terry and Margaret had three children, Andrew, and the twins, Helen and Jonathan. They supported them throughout their childhood and adult life.

Jonathan lives at Acorn Village and over the years Terry and Margaret supported Acorn as much as they could, and the Christmas Quiz became a regular event to help raise money for them.

After Margaret passed away, Terry was lucky enough to meet Sam who was a loving companion to him.

Over the past few years Terry’s health deteriorated and even more so over the last nine months where he was continually in and out of hospital and care homes.

He closed his eyes for the last time and passed away peacefully in his sleep in the early hours of Friday 27 September. .

I knew Terry from playing rugby with him at school in 1958/59, then lost touch for 50 years until we were introduced by his friend Doug Thompson and began meeting again on a regular basis before the annual KBGS reunions in Keighley. Always great company. Loved his sharp mind and dry humour. He delighted readers of the KBGS website by his scholarly comments, often in broad Yorkshire dialect.

Visited him once in Lincoln for lunch. Wish now it had been more often.

I'll add a rugby photo if I can figure out how to do it.

Sadly I will not be able to attend the funeral.

We will miss our friend. For many years we had only been in contact with him at Christmas, but even through his quiz for the Acorn Trust his sense of humour was obvious. Our condolences to all his family.

Super Terry Marston was a brilliant chap and great company in his local pubs , like and listened to by all.

His jokes were that bad that they were actually funny and will be greatly missed. It was hoped he would make a return to the fray but it was not to be. I never told him that.

Cherished memories and never forgotten.

Thank you for all the advice Terry in my youth.

I will attend the service but will leave the final goodbyes with those closer to him. However I will attend the windmill to raise a glass in celebration of a great man .

Such sad news to hear of Terry's passing. Though I only met Terry for the first time about 12 years ago I felt that we hit it off straight away. A Yorkshiremen through and through, he was full of grit, compassion and an understanding of people and of the world. He always had time for you whether it was to employ his talent for humour, to talk seriously about his ideas or to listen to others. I was lucky to have met Terry and those who knew him longer that I did were even luckier. R.I.P.

So very saddened by Terry's passing following illness. He was part of my life since earliest days in Riddlesden. He was for many years married to my cousin Margaret and it was always a great delight to visit them in Lincoln and when they came to stay with us in Hale.. It was also a joy to see Terry in his later years in Lincoln, albeit in failing health. A lovely man blessed with good humour, who made a real contribution to society and he will be well remembered by all privileged to have known him.

My wife and I were very saddened to hear of Terry's passing. I attended KBGS at the same time as Terry though I was a couple of years behind him. We played in the same school cricket team though after I moved to London, I lost touch with him. I met him again at an old school reunion and soon became a regular email contact of his really enjoying his jokes - albeit slightly risqué. My wife and I met up with him in Lincoln a few years ago when we went out to dinner with him. At the time I was growing a moustache as part of a Movember stunt. Typical of the man I was very amused to discover that he had bought me a slate plaque with the words "the moustache maketh the man". Typical Terry humour. He will be sadly missed.

Terry and I were colleagues at William Robertson. He was also my NAS/UWT rep. He taught me so much, and introduced me to some proper folk songs about early industrial inequalities - Poverty Knock, Oh, dear me, etc. A real Yorkshireman, in every sense. Miss him!

Very sad to hear of Terry’s death. My deepest sympathy to all his family. Over 30 years have passed since we worked together but those happy days at the Annex and the main school will not be forgotten. The Christmas quiz was looked forward to and Christmas is not the same without it. He was a very special man.

It is with great sadness that members of NASUWT Lincolnshire Retired Members Association have received the news of Terry’s passing. He will be remembered fondly as a lovely guy who had a natural instinct for communication. He had a vibrant personality, always positive, enthusiastic and genuine and over the years many Lincolnshire members of the NASUWT benefitted through his intervention, support and advice. He will be sorely missed by all. Our thoughts and prayers are with Andrew, Jonathan, Helen and Judy.

I’m so sorry to hear of the passing of Terry. He mentored me at the beginning of my career and I worked in the next-door classroom for 10 years when he became a colleague and good friend. A thoroughly decent man who I learnt so much from. My thoughts are with the family.
