Charles (Charlie) William Simcox, much-loved granddad, dad, husband and friend has died at the age of 68 at his home in Spondon, following a well-fought battle with oesophageal cancer. Although receiving successful surgery to remove the initial tumour, Charlie sadly discovered the cancer had metastasised earlier this year. In the interim, we are pleased to say Charlie was able to meet his two youngest Grandsons- Rex and Leo and spend more time with his much beloved granddaughter Esme. He also welcomed new additions to the family including two son in laws in Luke and Barry and a step grandchild of Alfie. He was also able to learn of the arrival of a further grandchild expected early next year. Charlie is survived by his wife Pamela, and three children, Faye, Eve and Guy.

Charlie was born on 15th January 1951 in Derby, the third child to William and Florence, joining siblings Peggy and Graham. He remained in Spondon his whole life, enjoying walks around the peak district, photography and bird spotting. He loved music, enjoying live performances and some choice beverages in Derby on a Friday night where he could often be found in the Flowerpot or Silk Mill. Although Charlie lived a relatively simple life, his value and importance to his family cannot be underestimated and he will be sorely missed. He was a much-loved colleague within the companies he worked for, notably British Rail- Derby Carriage and Wagon Works (later Bombardier), Matsuura and Celanese. Charlie worked hard all his life to support his family financially and as he grew older, and softer (perhaps in part due to the arrival of grandkids), increasingly a huge emotional support as well.
A burial service is scheduled for 11.00 on the 20th September at Dale Hill Natural Burial Ground Locko Park, Spondon, Derby, DE21 7BW.

Charlie was a regular visitor to Eve & Barry, this is where we would see him & Pamela. Charlies friendly attitude, particularly on Eve & Barrys wedding day will never be forgotten. His love and pride for his family was obvious, our thoughts are with them.

Goes without saying Charlie will be a huge huge miss to the family. From a personal point of view, he was a great father in law and along with Pam made me very welcome into the Simcox clan. Enjoyed spending time with him walking dogs, eating curry or where he'd pretend to be interested in footy, and I'd pretend to be interested in F1 or MotoGP! :). Little Leo and the unborn Coslet will know of a lovely Grandad through Eve and I. RIP Charlie.
