In loving memory of Thomas George HARRIS who sadly passed away on 10th August 2019. Flowers or donations made payable to "Guide Dogs for the Blind" or "Talking Books for the Blind" may be sent to C Terry Funeral Services, 244 Bulwell High Road, Bulwell, Nottingham NG6 9NU.

Born in 1926 in a small village in Leics, he left school at 14. His dad ran a smallholding, supplying chickens and veg to the village. After working the land, he became a Bevin Boy, looking after the pit ponies.
He ran away to join the Army post-War (as a Cook), stationed at Ellesmere, Shrops, and serving overseas in Mogadishu, Italian Somaliland. The only time he flew! Returning by Troop ship.

He married twice, had 3 children with his first wife, becoming sole-carer to his children; became step-dad twice (4 children, then 6 children).

Always loved children and dogs. Keen country and western music fan. Loved boats. Later moved on to motorbikes and sidecars, providing endless camping holidays and memorable days.

Macular degeneration, Parkinson's and dementian; but there were always moments of our Dad, our Grandad; he was still telling his stories until the day he died. And now, there's more...

  • Thanks Ann and Andrew for this, in memory of Dad... I was in Cromer on his birthday, and his favourite picture was in the window, and I went inside the charity shop and there was a print I liked, East Runton... Memories. Even recognised the artist

In respectful memory of my friend's father, whose inspiring life must have given her some of her strength of character. I trust Thomas is now enjoying Heaven.
