In loving memory of the late Ivor Rees who sadly passed away on 9th March 2015 after a very brave battle with cancer, which in fact he won in the end as he is now with his loving god who he was a faithful servant to the end.
Born in Derby, Ivor was the eldest child of John and Zillah Rees, and Brother to Trevor and Dawn. He excelled at everything he put his mind too...long distant running champion at school, and snooker to a high standard, even playing against Steve Davis in an exhibition match. Later on he joined a chess club which he loved and played up until recently. Ivor was a special person, loving, caring, a great family man, a man who material possessions did not mean a lot. He was always interested in people and with his kind heart would try and help anyone who was in need. His lovely quirky sense of humour and fun of life, made him a pleasure to be around. His sometimes childish love of playing with children made him all the more endearing to us. A truly unique character of which we will all sadly miss. His profound love of all living animals, especially dogs, Ivor left behind two lovely dogs, Billie and Bruno...Ivor's unselfish heart even letting go of Bruno, to be re homed before he died demonstrated what a lovely and selfless person he was. Sadly missed by all that new him especially his wife loving wife Avril, son Daniel, Mum, Dad, sister Dawn and family, brother Trevor and family...always in our hearts and never forgotten xxx

Being a fair bit older, I saw very little of Ivor. What sticks in my mind is his humour, his laugh and constant jovial nature - even at the last meal we shared - a curry at the Cavendish just before Christmas.

some of my earliest memories are all of Ivor. We spent every weekend together at Grandmas, climbing trees and having great fun. I remember him at church in our 20's and whenever I think of him I think of his humour and unasssuming manner. He was a very fast runner and in our twenties we got to know each other well as we discussed the bible, god, doubts etc. We drifted and rarely saw each other in latter years but he is rooted in my family identity and so I would like to say goodbye to a friend and brother who lit up our lives. Ivor, you are one of a kind....!
