In loving memory of James (Jim) Donovan who sadly passed away on 1st April 2019

I had just joined Sainsburys and gone out for a drink after work. There were about 15 of us out and everyone was taking the mick out of each other. I, as a newbie and unsure of my position, cracked a joke. I was immediately put in my place by a loud man that shouted back "and they said that comedy was dead". This man was Jim Donovan and was the start of our 20 year friendship.
An unlikely friendship some might say what with me being a "student ponce" (his words) and him a grizzy shift manager from Charlton depot.
Except he was not grizzy. He was warm, kind, generous and funny. He loved demonstrating his knowledge; from all things sport to the best restaurants in town. He was always laughing and joking but when he was required to listen, he did, and gave me some sage advice along the way.
I will miss him dearly.
Rest in Peace Jimmy

So much looked forward to our chats on the phone talking about contracting and our Sainsbury’s days. Jim was a genuine , funny and warm person who made our Christmas party always more enjoyable with him there. The bravest man I will ever know.

Saying goodbye to a man who encouraged me to enjoy life as much as possible and would take an interest in everything I did. Generous and funny, he was an uncle you could turn to. RIP Uncle James x
