In loving memory of Derek "Des" Holmes who sadly passed away on 2nd March 2019. Des will always be remembered for his unstinting kindness and cheerful disposition. As many people have commented he was a truly lovely man inside and out and will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Having taken retirement at the age of 60 Des fulfilled a long held ambition to learn to sail and bought himself a little sailing boat that he loved to use at the local sailing club.He also enjoyed walking, dancing, cycling and fishing but most of all he was able to put his incredible artistic talent to good use designing and building the sets for the local drama group. As well as set building Des was also a very talented actor and always good fun to be with. Des could always see the positive side of life and refused to be dragged down by any of life's setbacks so when he was diagnosed with bowel cancer in November 2016 he remained determined to enjoy life to the full and never lost his down to earth sense of humour or sunny nature. His funeral will be held at 12.30 on Tuesday 2nd April 2019 at the Lincoln Crematorium and afterwards at Saxilby Village Hall

This was taken at my son's wedding in May 2018 and absolutely captures the huge smile and sunny disposition that made Des so special.

Can't express how much Des will be missed. He was the loveliest of men. His cheerfulness, bravery, stoicism in the face all he suffered was unbelievable. We will miss him so much, not only for his amazing talents but for his unstinting warmth and friendship. I will never forget our scene together in Ladies Day.

I, along with everyone who knew him, will remember our dear friend Des for his unstinting support, friendship, cheerfulness (in the face of some extreme circumstances at times), help and not the least for his amazing talent, both on the stage and off. I will always remember our part together in Ladies Day. I treasure the cards he created for us. A wonderful man and friend xxx
