In loving memory of the late Alice Wheale, who sadly passed away on 28th December 2014.

After leaving Scotland in 1945 to join the army (something she had wanted to do during the war) ! Mom, having met dad in the army, demobbed to Birmingham where she was to spend the next nearly 50 years.

Mom and Dad enjoyed a hectic social life, ballroom dancing being a particular favourite thing.

This social whirl ended when I was born in 1964 and, a bit like buses you wait ages for one and then two come along at once, Alistair was born in 1965!

Mom maintained the friendships she had made before we were born and made lots of other new and lasting friendships. We always had playmates !

She enjoyed bingo she won occasionally although it never changed our lives!

Mom was a very caring person and looked after our nan for many years and more recently looked after my Uncle Sid who moved to be near mom and dad in 2000. Her insructions to us about her future care needs were very simple "put me in a home with a whilst drive on one side and a bingo hall on the other".

Mom loved shopping and had handbags galore! She called herself the bag lady and we spent hours and I mean hours in clothes shops and River Island for her handbags!

In 1993 my dad was able to fulfil a promise to take mom back home. They didn't quite make it as far north as they intended to as they stumbled across Dumfries and they settled there, mom staying there until 2013 when she asked us to move her back to Birmingham. As children having her closer was lovely and we spent many Saturday afternoons together shopping and drinking coffee.

Her last few weeks were not happy for her but I know that in her life she was surrounded by people who loved her and whom she loved in return, her cheeky smile never left her, I saw it for the last time the night before she died.

God bless you mom we miss you but we are comforted by the knowledge that you are reunited with dad and friends and family to numerous to mention xxxx

I will miss the days out we had and the times I did something silly and made you cry with laughter. The guardians of the sky will look after you now, you will always be in my thoughts.

Take care,
Laura
