Muriel Elizabeth Manly passed away on 25th September 2017 suddenly but peacefully in her home in Old Coulsdon at the great age of 94. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who will be sadly missed by her children, Angela and Andrew, grandsons Michael, Graham and Alastair and their partners and great grandson Joseph. She goes now to join Bill, her husband who has been waiting 30 years for her.
Brought up in Kirriemuir, a small Scottish town on the edge of the Highlands she joined the WAAFs in WW2 serving in various parts of the UK as a Barrage Balloon operator. She moved to Surrey after the war and met Bill, whom she married in 1947.
As well as being a busy mum she also worked in two sweet shops and a green grocers, only retiring at the age of 79 and then very reluctantly. She then took on the garden and various jobs for her son's company
She travelled to Australia several times to visit her relatives downunder and enjoyed several trips to other foreign parts with her son and daughter.
Muriel was very adaptable to the changes she saw through her long life and took the Downs with fortitude and resiliance and the Ups with optimism and enthusiasm.
She is one of the last of her generation. A great lady with an incredible history. may she rest in peace.

You were the first relative we met so my sister Fiona and I decided to come over to England to visit and had a wonderful time. You are now resting peacefully with Uncle Bill.
