Martin was a wonderful person and it is with great sadness that I heard of his death. He contributed so much to music in Dorset. My thoughts are with his lovely family at this time. X

Martin was an inspirational music teacher at Oakhurst First School. He gave weekly music lessons and I remember him conducting hundreds of children from many Dorset schools at the Lighthouse Theatre in Poole and at many other events. Our thoughts are with his family at this difficult time.

One of the many animated pictures of Martin whilst conducting! This being at the joint EDMC/Christchurch Junior School Spring Concert held at Twynham School in 2011. So many happy memories of the many concerts and rehearsals. RIP Martin from the Merricks

Martin was a funny, inspirational and musical leader. He made the Bournemouth and District Concert Band a joy to be a member of and his jokes were what made the concerts such fun. I am so proud to have known Martin and am so sad he has gone. Angela xx

Martin was so much to so many people. The horrific illness robbed him of so much. But he will be remembered for his musical talent, his tenacity and his bad jokes. He was my friend and I will miss him. With love, RIP. xxx?

Sending our sincere condolences to Martin's family. We will never forget his passion for encouraging children to have fun playing music together. He inspired so many youngsters to join in, whatever their ability, and thanks to him many of them are still playing music. RIP Martin, taken much too early by such a cruel illness. The Sherwood family.
