In loving memory of the late Jean Dobbs who sadly passed away on 17th September 2014
Mum had an interesting and varied life. The eldest of three she had a brother and sister both of whom predeceased her. In the war she worked as a switchboard operator for the American Embassy cycling from Romford Essex to London to do so. She had many tales to tell of that time such as a narrow escape from a doodlebug chasing her dad and herself up a street and the sudden meeting with the chains of a loose barrage balloon.
After the war she married Douglas Savidge and had her elder daughter Maureen in 1947. Unfortunately two years later Douglas was killed tragically in a road accident leaving her to bring up a child on her own.
Three years later she met and married Sid Dobbs, a Royal Marine in April 1952.
Their daughter, Valerie, was born in March 1953 a baby sister for Maureen. By this time the family had moved to Lympstone in Devon where they stayed until Sid left the Marines and they moved to Nottingham.
Mum was working back on a switchboard again.
The marriage was a very happy one and they were contented and enjoying their children and grandchildren until at the age of 80 Sid passed away and at 71 she was again a widow.
A talented crafts woman, Mum was able to fill some of her time sewing, knitting and socialising with friends in Bingham.
In the latter years as her health declined she did les of these but still enjoyed reading her kindle and doing her puzzles in the paper right to the very end.
She moved into Lancaster Grange when it became obvious that she was unable to have the care she needed at home.
They gave her all that she needed with affection and caring and looked after her till the end.
She passed away peacefully at 11.05pm on Wednesday 17th September 2014 at the age of 88.
She leaves two daughters and their husbands, 4 grandchildren and their partners, three great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Was so sorry to hear that Auntie Jean had passed on. I was lucky to have her brother George as my Dad. To the family, I send my condolences and in time the pain will pass, but her memory will last forever. Love Kim xxx
