My Dear Betty.
I guess I was about six years old. You'd have been eighteen. There'd been a death in the family. Our grandfather I think. I'd been talking to you about death and being scared of dying. As with many aspects of my young life, you took away the sting.
"It's just like going to sleep," you said, "and looking forward to having a nice dream."
I was no longer afraid and I'm still not. Your empathy and compassion are exceeded only by your unconditional love.
