In loving memory of a wonderful Husband, Dad, Garg, GG, Brother, Uncle and Friend - Derick Beesley, who sadly passed away on 5th September 2026, his 83rd birthday.

For those who knew Dad, you'll remember that he was always on the go. Whether he was just 'out and about', pottering in the garden, or happily tinkering in his shed, he was never one to sit still. He had an incredible talent for working with wood and created so many wonderful things over the years, including sheds, Wendy houses, dolls' houses, radiator covers for friends, and his trademark wheelbarrow planters.

Everything changed four years ago when Dad suffered a stroke. True to character, he fought hard and was determined to regain some independence. With resilience and determination, he got back on his feet, supported by his walker and an unwavering spirit. He faced every challenge with courage, but sadly dementia proved to be a battle too far. It is now time for him to rest peacefully.

We would be honoured if you could join us in celebrating Dad's life on: Wednesday 7th October 2026 at 1:00pm at Basildon Crematorium (Riverview Chapel)

Following the service, please join us at the Canvey Conservative Club, 59 Long Road, Canvey Island SS8 0JA, to share memories, stories and raise a glass or two.

Dress Code: Traditional attire with a pop of colour of your choice.

Flowers are welcome should you wish to send them. However, as this will be a cremation service, we would also warmly welcome donations to Dementia UK in lieu of flowers. Any contribution, no matter the size, will help support the fight against this devastating disease.

Flowers may be sent to: Stibbards, 22 Canvey Road, Canvey Island, Essex SS8 0LW. Please arrange for flowers to arrive on the morning of 7th October 2026.

We would also love for you to use this page to share your memories, stories, and photographs of Dad. Your recollections will help us celebrate a life.

  • He was very lucky to have you and they were both devastated when you left! However, we as a family were very grateful they had you for as long as they did. Good carers are hard to find x x

Dear Derek,

It’s hard to put into words what your friendship meant to our family. You were such a wonderful friend to Dad, especially when he was ill, and we will always remember your visits, sitting with him over a cup of tea and your paper.

Even after we lost Dad, you and Lin never forgot us, always thinking of us and making sure we raised a glass of pink champagne to him. That kindness has meant more than you could ever have known.

We have known you all my life, and you will always be part of so many precious memories of Dad and of our family.

Rest peacefully, Derek. We hope you, auntie Lin (Wellmen) and Dad are together again, having a glass of wine or port and putting the world to rights.

With all our love,
Sarah & Katie xxx

‘Uncle’ Derick,
We have so many wonderful memories of you that we will hold dear, from our unforgettable family holiday to Ibiza, to the countless times you shared your wisdom, usually in the kitchen at parties!

So talented and over the years, made us so many things that have become part of our family and will be treasured always.
The legendary wheelbarrow may sadly be ‘wheel-less’, but the gate you made is still standing after 24 years, as is the huge treasure chest toy box you made for Mackenzie’s pirate house.

Perhaps most special of all are the beautiful treasure keepsake boxes you made for the boys. Mum filled them with precious memories throughout their childhood, and Mackenzie was only given his in June this year for his 21st, making it all the more special.
You even made all our personalised wedding table settings, adding your own special touch to some of our happiest memories.

Can’t forget the shed at Mum and Dad’s…still standing AND still functioning as a shed all these years later!

All these things hold such special memories of you and will always remind us of the love, talent and thought you put into everything you did for us.

We will miss you lots, so lucky and grateful to have had you in our lives.

We know you’re at peace, resting in your ‘shed in the sky’, drinking the finest red wine, as you deserve… and putting the world to rights (with Mum and Stevie V).

Lots of love always,
Vanessa, Eric, Mackenzie & Ava

Rest easy my dear Brother. I will miss our phone calls and those free history lessons you always managed to throw in with each one! I wish distance wouldn't have separated us and we could have spent more time together. Hoping to be reunited someday where time nor distance can ever separate us again. You were the best brother a girl could ever wish for. Love and miss you always, Dawn
