In loving memory of Hessie McClean who sadly passed away on 24th August 2026
Our mum was born in Ballynure, Northern Ireland, in 1935, and was one of 5 children to Henry and Vina McComb. She had very fond memories of a happy childhood, along with Martha, Tommy, Vina and Etta. She often shared the stories when the opportunity arose!
She met William (Billy) McClean as a young adult and a long and loving relationship was formed. They married and had 2 children, Mark (born 1965) and Stephen (1970). It was a loving and happy home and our childhood was filled with joy, affection and adventure. Many a holiday was spent on the North Antrim coast with family and friends.
Unfortunately Billy passed away over 30 years ago, lost far too young to cancer. Mum was devastated. However, after a period of much grief, she determined to find happiness again, and so she did, spending time with friends, going on many a holiday, and often dancing in the Working Mens club in Newtownabbey for several years after.
As both her Sons lived there, She often spent time visiting England, and ended up moving over permanently about 17 years ago.
In her time here She was able to watch her granddaughter Ashley growing up, and spent time going to shows in the local community centre with friends. She would also go on coach holidays with her sister-in-law and regularly flew back to Northern Ireland to visit her sister(s) and cousin.
Mum was fiercely independent, and always wanted to try to do things herself, even in her latter years. She would take the bus to Chorley and Bolton to go shopping and often went to Scarborough. She could also be found on the top of steps changing curtains, sweeping floors and a bottle of bleach was never far from her hands!
We will miss her enormously. She was a loving, devoted Mother and Grandmother; had great courage and faith, and battled to the end...... She never lost her sense of humour through it all..
We will all be poorer for her absence...

To my cousins, Mark and Steve and their families, deepest condolences on the loss of your mother.
An ocean separated my aunt and myself but the times I was in N.Ireland or times she came to Canada are memories that I will hold dear and close to my heart. Her spirit and that laugh that lit up a room was one of kind. Myself, JJ and our kids will miss her.

To my nephews Mark and Steve and their families I am so deeply sorry for loss of your Mother and my sister.
My sister was my friend supportive,loving and a light in my life.I will miss our times together.Mostly I will miss our times of laughter which were many and we both loved those times. Although that light has gone out her presence and memories remain in my heart. Fly high Hessie and let your beautiful spirit Dance.

Extending my sincerest sympathy to my nephews Mark & Stephen and their families on the passing of their mother and my sister Hessie. Hessie lived a full life and loved to dance and enjoy time with family and friends. She enjoyed our Irish humour had an infectious laugh. Hessie you will be sadly missed… sleep peacefully ❤️
