Raymond Arthur Goudy ("Ray")

Raymond Arthur Goudy, affectionately known to everyone as Ray, passed away suddenly on 6th July 2026 at the age of 78.

Ray was the devoted husband of Linda, much-loved father of Marie and Darren, and an incredibly proud grandfather to Rosie, Holly, Jack and Harvey. His family was at the heart of everything he did, and nothing brought him greater happiness than watching his grandchildren grow and celebrating their achievements.

In 1982, Ray founded Ray Goudy Trailer Repairs, a business built on hard work, honesty and exceptional service. Through years of dedication, he established a respected company that continues to thrive today under the care of his family. Seeing the business continue for future generations was something that meant a great deal to him and stands as one of his lasting legacies.

Away from work, Ray had a lifelong passion for saloon stock car racing. Racing under the number 156, he enjoyed tremendous success throughout his career, winning multiple championships, including both the World Championship and the British Championship. The sport brought him lifelong friendships, unforgettable memories and immense pride, and he remained passionate about it throughout his life.

Anyone who knew Ray would describe him as a straight-talking man. You always knew where you stood with him. He believed in honesty and fairness, and although he never sugar-coated his opinions, people respected him for it. Beneath his direct manner was a kind and generous person who would never hesitate to help someone in need. Whether family, friends, neighbours or complete strangers, Ray was always willing to lend a hand wherever he could.

Ray also had a great love of animals, a reflection of his caring nature, and this compassion extended to everyone around him. He was dependable, hardworking and loyal qualities that earned him the respect of so many people throughout his life.

Although Ray's passing has left an enormous void, the values he lived by, the business he created, the memories he made through racing, and, above all, the love he had for his family will continue to live on. He will be remembered with great affection, deep respect and endless love by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A Celebration of Ray's Life will take place at St Mary's Church, Church Road, Bacton, Stowmarket, IP14 4LJ, on Monday 3rd August 2026 at 2.30pm. Family flowers only, please. Donations, if desired, in memory of Ray are for Suffolk Animal Rescue and may be made through JustGiving above or sent care of Andrew Bingham Independent Funeral Service, No 2 Charles Industrial Estate, Stowmarket, IP14 5AH Tel: 01449 771666
