In loving memory of Melvyn 'Mel' Langdell who sadly passed away on 4th July 2026.
Mel crammd a vast amount into his 76 years , advocating life was for living, and that he did.
Born in Birmingham, and raised there, heading to Devon in 1981 and remaining here, working, raising his family and making so many friends and memories along the way. A life well lived.
Family, Friends, Fishing & Horseracing were his life's loves and he made sure he enjoyed them to their fullest.
His life was enriched by all of the people he met and made time for throughout.
He was an amazing Husband, Dad and Grandad and delivered over an above in every one of these roles.
He leaves a very large void in the lives of his family, who will miss him greatly.

We spent one dayof our lives getting married and the rest of our lives so glad we did.
You have been the most wonderful Husband, best friend and soul mate.
We've loved and laughed in abundance and cried a little along the way but we've had the most amazing life together as 'one'. Now we'll be together in spirit until we can be together again.
Rest peacefully my love ❤️ Thank you for all the years we shared. I will miss you every single minute of every day

Here he is, the co-owner of a racehorse, at a recent owners open day Oct 2025, at the Olley Murphy Stables near Stratford.
Champagne and the famous owners home made hot dogs was the country fayre for the occasion. Yummy!
I had a personal invite and this was the last time I saw him in the flesh.
The above picture is how I shall remember him at his happiest.
I am not a follower of horse racing and am not comfortable with the ‘hooray henries’ brigade but it was a memorable occasion and it was a privilege for me to attend, and witness the hard work and dedication that goes into the sport.
He loved sea fishing, but his passion as we all know was horse racing and he was at his happiest talking horse racing and being around horse racing people.
He was a regular attendee at many racecourses in the UK and Cheltenham Festival was a great favourite of his.
It goes without saying that Mel will be sadly missed by all, and it’s a shame that he has been taken from us too soon.
Can’t believe he won’t be around anymore!
Once diagnosed with AML, it was always going to be an uphill battle to beat it.
And it makes me very proud that he along with the medics and family, tried so hard to overcome it, which is to his and his family’s credit.
He will not be forgotten, and I will miss his drive, competitiveness, humour, sarcasm, and no nonsense, pragmatic, opinionated personality!
Tough exterior, pussycat at heart, really. 😊
I’ll miss our regular telephone catchup chats where he would always take the lions share of the conversation, ensuring he got his message across!
Puts a whole new meaning to ‘getting a word in edgeways’ as many of you will have experienced!
He accomplished many things in his life and it’s a pity he didn’t get more time to enjoy them.
Well, I wanted to put my thoughts out there and say a few things about my dear brother Mel.
Although our family is spread far and wide, and is not and has not been as close as I would have liked, I am grateful for the limited time I did get to spend with him which I will cherish.
Mal, I hope you’re being looked after at this difficult time, and hope you’re not offended by my comments.
