This is in Loving Memory of Janice ,
Our Cousin
Written on behalf of Jacqui and Wendy, we both hold very fond memories of growing up together as children.
Although we didn’t see one another and often as we might have wished, the times we did meet were full of laughter, mischief, and the kind of closeness that only cousins can share. Some of those parties-Christmas Day dinners and especially Nans birthday, at No. 36 are still today spoken today with legendary love, affection, their stories carried in the tone and accent of those who remember them.
I will always treasure the friendship and warmth Janice showed to both Wendy and me. Only the other day I came across a photograph of the two of us—taken, we believe, at our Bet and Colin’ wedding—where we were poking our tongues out at each other. It brought an instant smile to my face, a reminder of her humour, her spirit, and the easy joy she carried with her.
As a family, you know our my belief in continuing life and is without doubt or hesitation, Janice has not gone.
We understand that we are never left alone, at times of bereavement we are not bereft, and never abandoned to our grief, when those moments come—those gentle, unexpected moments when we smile at a memory, a photograph, a story—that smile is not accidental. It is the touch of spirit, the closeness of those we love, reminding us that they walk beside us still.
Although I am deeply sorry to miss today’s service, I have received evidence through Nan Ellerington that Janice is safe, supported, and adjusting to her new surroundings. She is now reunited with her mum and dad, and with the rest of the Ellerington family who have welcomed her home with love.
On this sad yet beautiful day, we join together in affection and gratitude to bid her a fond farewell. Her laughter, her kindness, and her presence remain with us—and will continue to do so. In our minds and in our hearts, she is only a thought away.
May her spirit shine brightly in the next stage of her journey, and may we honour her by remembering her with love, with warmth, and with the kind of smile that tells us she is near. Closer than ever before, Janice is Eternal!
