Fred started his shipwright apprenticeship in January 1953, I had started four months earlier on Sept.1st 1952, hence my connection with Fred. We apprentices were moved to various sections of the Dockyard every four months to broaden our experience and knowledge. During these moves I frequently met up with Fred and we always had a good laugh and joke together. However, all good things come to an end and our's came when we were called up for National Service at the end of our five years. I never saw Fred again until the Dockyard Reunion about 3 or 4 years ago. I offer my sincere condolences to Fred's family and friends and may his soul rest in peace.

Fred was the best father-in-law I could have wished for, I will miss him very much, he was such a lovely man he loved nothing more than spending time with his family. I have so many great memories I am so thankful for at this sad time. Sleep tight Fred xx
