Oh my dearest dearest Robert, our first conversation, 1997 in my uncles pub.
In apologised to you for standing on your foot, you quickly replied, don’t worry about it love I can’t feel a thing… I didnt know what you meant. You pulled your jeans up and tapped the pole… I didn’t know where to look, you just laughed.
We soon formed a close bond, mostly over our love of The Beatles, Annie Lennox & any music to be honest.
I think everyone thought we were carrying on cos for a while we were thick as thieves haha, but that was never the case, truth is we just got on well didn’t we. Talking about Lennon & McCartney… Elton John, Paul Weller & her, Annie. Remember when I dragged you all the way to a Beatles & Lennon tribute gig in North London. End of the night couldn’t see you anywhere, I turn around and you was in the middle of the circle, middle in the floor singing all you need is love. Good times Robert. Some of the best of my life.
You adored your girls Amiee, you was always so excited when she came down. And then when Bobbi Moo came along that was it.. you was besotted. I’d wait for you to bring her in the pub and I’d steal her and walk her round the docks. Sure Tina must’ve thought wtf hahaha…
We never said a normal hello to greet each other, it was always ‘ere you’ll never guess what, he’s had me up all night singing, then Macca comes round bring Annie with him… singing all night they was… then our same favourite saying ‘people say I’m crazy…doing what I’m doing’ both of us then belting the rest of the song together ‘were just sitting here watching the wheels go round and round’ Robert you was my best memory of the 90’s. Even all the cold nights at the den we’d go to.
I’ve never forgotten you & I never will. I have no doubt your Paddy is waiting for you.. and you too can crack on again…
Rest in peace Robert. Give Lennon a good run for his money.
Love you my mate xx
