In loving memory of David Pannell who sadly passed away just nine days short of his 60th birthday, on 10th April 2026.

David, Dave, JJ, Disco Dave, Cuban Dave, John - a wonderful son, brother, uncle and friend.

Most of you will know that in April 2024, David was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND), for which there is no cure. He moved from his long-time home in Ickenham, round the corner from his beloved tennis club, and away from so many friends, to be near his family later that year, so that he could be supported as much as possible.

He bore his illness with determination and dignity, although the disease did its very best to take everything away from him.

He was supported by his family, and drew strength from the support of his many friends too. Being Dave, even through this terrible illness he made even more friends, through his MND and hospice support groups, and he found this support and friendship hugely valuable in the last couple of years.

Dave was a sportsman for his whole life, all the time he could be, but also gave back so much to the sports he loved. He was tennis club captain, football team captain and master of the stats and data for every match! He loved his golf, cycling, running for a time and, of course, dancing. He represented HMRC at tennis, travelling the world and competing around the country - on most occasions coming away with a medal. He enjoyed spending time with his friends, meeting many on walking holidays, and then gathering for reunions often. Throughout his long career with the civil service, he, again, made great friends - friends for life.

We remember Dave with love.

If anyone would like to make a donation in Dave's memory, there are two charities who helped him, and who provide essential support to so many, day in and day out. These are the MND Association Mid-Kent Branch and the ellenor Hospice in Northfleet. Links are below, which you will have to CUT AND PASTE into your browser - please mention Dave's name if you donate:

What an inspiring person - Dave gave so much to our support group in terms of his positivity and determination. His huge grin and real empathy for others will be greatly missed. We are so grateful to have been blessed with his company. With much love from your friends at the support group.
